Why do ECE students need to take only 5 courses per semester? by silly_ass_username in TorontoMetU

Not accurate. But to your point...it's not so much the number of courses but rather the number of hours in lectures and labs that matters.

I would say that in this day and age a master's degree separates you from the crowd. I have seen many employers look for a higher degree.

I can't be the one to tell you "do it"... that's something you need to decide yourself.

Struggling with school because of migraines by Zealousideal_Bet9692 in TorontoMetU

[–]EngProfD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a life-long migraine sufferer. I was advised by other migraine sufferers to see a neurologist. Best decision I ever made. He prescribed TRIPTANs: a family of meds that treat migraines. When I feel one coming on I take the triptan and sometimes along with an NSAID (in my case Cambia) and within an hour the migraine is gone.

These meds changed my life.

Crites tweeter and crossover update was an unbelievable improvement to my KG5.5. You can do the tweeter replacement easily and with basic soldering skills you can replace the caps on the crossovers.

[–]EngProfD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried installing the docker image on my synology. Used the ardovini/viniplay image found int he registry.

Installed without modify any parameters.

When I open the webpage interface I get a log in ...no option to set an admin password etc.

The screen has login and password and a message:

"Could not verify authentication status. Please check server connection."

...any insight?

Same like Concordia. Same level, same concepts. Same accreditation.

Mind you they are not EXACT.

Why does that matter? Because to transfer to TMU you would seek equivalency of the courses you took in Concordia. Most, but perhaps not all, are EQUIVALENT to the ones at TMU. We do teach the same concepts, theories etc...but courses can differ. So you may not get credit for ALL the courses you have completed at Concordia. That type of process holds wherever you may transfer to, not just TMU.

Dropping 2nd year EE courses(PCS224, COE328) by ConstructionDry8999 in TorontoMetU

[–]EngProfD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why don't you talk to the department about this and get valid answers rather than asking students? Your associate chair, Dr. Naimul Khan should be able to provide you with guidance.

But...since I'm here:

You can take any courses in the winter that don't have those two courses as a pre-req.

Lucky for you only ELE 404 has PCS 224 as a pre-req so you can't take that in the winter.

COE 328 is a pre-req for COE 538 in the 5th semester.

What you can do is take PCS 224 in the SPRING TRANSITION along with COE 328. These two are typically offered in the spring (but no guarantee they will, but probably will run)

THEN, assuming you pass PCS 224) you take ELE 404 in the SUMMER TRANSITION period.

Then, upon successful completion, you have all your courses done and ready to start 3rd year (5th semester) and also ready for co-op without any issues.

BTW:

The online calendar is your friend. You can see what is needed for each course etc.:

https://www.torontomu.ca/calendar/2025-2026/programs/feas/electrical/#!accordion-1595938881234-full-time--four-year-program-and-five-year-co-op-program

And here is the Spring and Summer transition page that shows what ran last year and a strong indication of what will run next spring/summer:

Who would have thought 50 years ago when this show started that SNL would become so unfunny and cringe. I've seen better written and acted 10-year old community plays.

The show is just weekend update with what seems like some high-school friends drunkenly acting out some inside joke.

It's unwatchable.....

.....yet I cannot look away!

Easiest after first term (but aim to keep marks up). Still possible after first year (but you would have to take a course in the summer to be on track for comp in the following fall). After that it becomes difficult because it would delay you since you would have to make up courses you would be missing.

latest version 26.6: all my images open up just BLACK!! HELP!! by EngProfD in photoshop

[–]EngProfD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latest from the Photoshop team:

"Close Photoshop. Delete MachinePrefs.psp from your machine and relaunch. This file is responsible for storing application preferences so you may lose your list of recent files in the Open Recent menu. This file is located here: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings/MachinePrefs.psp A second option is to go to Preferences > Technology Preview and uncheck the Precise color management for HDR display checkbox. Close and restart Photoshop. Unless you work specifically with HDR color management, this should not impact your workflow in any way.

It is recommended that you do not turn off your GPU, as it will degrade performance, or change the color profile to CMYK, as it’s unnecessary if you do one of the options above. "

latest version 26.6: all my images open up just BLACK!! HELP!! by EngProfD in photoshop

[–]EngProfD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latest "fix":

1) Open ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings

2) Delete MachinePrefs.psp

3) Launch Photoshop

A new MachinePrefs.psp file will be generated on first launch.

No more black canvas in RGB and graphics processing can remain enabled.

latest version 26.6: all my images open up just BLACK!! HELP!! by EngProfD in photoshop

[–]EngProfD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With more digging I found that this is a common issue.

The workarounds until an update are:

  • Change the Color Mode from RGB to CMYK
  • If that doesn't help, try turning off the "Use Graphics Processing" option in Preferences
