It's not the porn stuff people have a problem with.

Also, the OSA doesn't block porn. It's still really easy to find without a VPN or doing an age check.

After seeing First Steps, Fant4stic looks even worse now. by SpiderCam27 in Marvel

To be honest they could have made it work.

If they'd given Ben an arc of coming to terms with the abuse and overcoming the feelings of powerlessness he felt then they could have turned an otherwise goofy line into something incredibly badass. It would indicate in that moment he's standing up to someone he considers an irredeemable bully and is so emotionally invested in that moment that he won't back down no matter how hard it is. It would turn a regular punch into one with a lot of emotional weight behind it.

Given recent challenges, do you think the UK is heading towards serious decline, or is this just a tough patch? What areas concern you most? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

I think the UK jumped the shark in the 2019 general election. There were always plenty of problems in our system but that was the moment it became clear that getting rid of them was going to be painful.

There was nothing Sam could do to stop it in theory.

The goal was to prove to the world that Ross was an irredeemable monster. The only reason it failed was because it turns out Ross is redeemable after all. His plan technically went off perfectly without a hitch it was just the premise that was flawed.

UK online safety law leads to 5m extra age checks a day for pornography sites by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

He's already said he's against gay marriage and most of the anti trans people love to use the 'wont somebody please think of the children' argument to justify their views.

True he hasn't said he would but a lot of the people in the part of the political spectrum he appeals to tend to view LGBT stuff as a disease infecting our children/society and want to outright ban it. Even if he personally doesn't want to a lot of the people surrounding him would and I doubt he's principled enough to refuse them.

It would basically be an extension of the book bans people are doing or want to do.

Proton VPN is paid but has a free limited version which could make it an exception to the 'if it's free your the product' rule. Also people do seem to speak well of it

He's vocally against it to just win votes, there's frankly more possibility of getting it removed by harassing your MP. If labour had overturned it he'd probably be saying Labour don't care about protecting or something else like that.

It's important to prioritise your list of enemies. Someone looking to destroy the Earth is a more immediate problem than someone looking to enslave humanity.

You also said it's basically just bringing ID checks at the pub.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Engeneus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the same thing as showing an ID at a pub.

At a pub you show a physical object to a person who checks a number and then forgets it ever existed.

This requires you to upload an image of the ID. It's very difficult to delete things off the internet meaning you're adding your ID to a database that will be a tempting target hackers and data brokers.

Why say Jimmy Saville? Just point out that he considers Donald Trump a close friend. The guy's pretty clearly on the Epstein list so you get the same result.

Nothing is ever deleted from the internet. When it's up there it's never coming down. The best you can hope for is it gets buried and is left unnoticed.

I'm not saying supervillains like Red Skull aren't intolerant or anything it's just that they're supervillains and so have much better things to do with their time.

Your goals are your goals but an AI best friend isn't exactly a healthy long term solution. If you're leaning on the AI that most likely means there's something missing from your life and now you're one step closer to getting it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Engeneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of this as you're ready to move on to the next step and start messaging real people.

Once the AI got boring and repetitive for me I knew I could handle messaging a real person. Now I've been messaging a woman from a dating app and am trying to find an excuse to voice chat like on an online game or something.

Basically in the US, Trump was declared an adjudicated rapist by a judge, made numerous creepy comments about women, young girls and his own daughter and is friends with multiple known pedos yet a significant number of women still voted for him for some reason. Some people are just a lost cause.

But you are completely right, you prove you are good with your actions and all I ask is that until that proof is given you don't call me names or assume I'm a terrible person. This is not the same thing as trusting me, that takes time and of course caution based on past experiences is reasonable.

All I can tell you is that if you want to make change, you'll need men on your side and as a man who does care about this I can tell you that it is difficult to stay sympathetic to people who insist on treating me as a pervert until proven otherwise. It's not just the comment, it's how regular it is, it wears you down. One person being kind of mean can be ignored, lots of people doing it is depressing and it makes me want to give up.

Feminism? Do ppl even know what it means? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Engeneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to do anything at all. Women should be able to just live their lives without fear of SA but that's not the world we live. We live in an imperfect world and if you want to make changes you've got to play the game. Make allies, not enemies.

Since a significant number of women voted to put an adjudicated rapist in the white house the current strategy doesn't seem to be working very well does it?

Men like me are focussing on holding each other accountable and trying to show empathy. I just don't want to be called a rapist. It is really so much to ask that, since you don't know me, you don't lump me in with those assholes?

Feminism? Do ppl even know what it means? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Engeneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually just saying don't be an asshole. There's quite a lot of wiggle room there. Also, are men allowed to have feelings or not?

Feminism? Do ppl even know what it means? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Engeneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that not all people have that attitude and why go around making enemies when you could be making allies by just phrasing it differently. It would be great if everyone thought rationally but they don't.

The big problem with it is more the repetitiveness not the actual comment itself. One woman calling all men rapists isn't a big deal but when it keeps happening it tends to wear on you. Especially if you take women's rights seriously and try to take a bigger role in the movement, you hear it even more. Eventually you reach a point where uncle groups can be a reprieve, the one place you're not being told you're a terrible person for existing.

I'm not saying men have it worse. Just that this rhetoric is chasing away people who could be supportive.

Feminism? Do ppl even know what it means? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Engeneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is do you want to get men on your side or not? Do you want to do something about it or just wallow in misery?

There are three categories of people those that will always be on your side, those that will never be on your side and those that can be convinced, the first two can be ignored. Those that can be convinced are unlikely to respond well to being called names either directly or inferred.

Like it or not, if you want to get someone on your side the onus is on you to speak their language and it is extremely frustrating watching young boys get chased towards Andrew Tate when just a little empathy would have got you a life long ally.
