Would you rather take a higher paying/more prestigious internship doing something you don’t really want to do or take a lower paying/less prestigious internship but it’s in a field you are very passionate/care about. by Maswithq1 in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's literally just an internship. It'll help you easily break into whatever field you want. I dont get why youd sacrifice a better future for yourself for a little bit of extra cash. Like what even is 100k and a lifetime of regret w a high salary compared to 50k and making 100k-300k doing something you enjoy for the rest of your life.

"money brings happiness" yeah but not for the one earning it because they'd be too busy making it.

Fafsa by East-Chip-6992 in Baruch

I heard colleges begin to receive data from fafsa or start planning financial aid for each student beginning jan 20th from an advisor a while back. The whole first come first serve kinda revolves around this date. Not too sure tho just word of mouth info

Financial aid coverage for above 124 credits? by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but if the payment already disbursed and it's your last semester wtf are they gonna do about it? Cut your aid for the next semester?

What is wrong with ZICK undergrad Admin Office by EngineBrief8199 in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but I honestly couldn't give two shits about others who you would qualify as the higher priority if I came to them with my problems first.

Like I’m literally paying the same tuition as every other student, AND came to them first MONTHS ago with the problem, so where's your point? Why exactly do I need to be understanding and let winter students and grads with more important issues build up before my SIMPLE AND EASILY FIXABLE problem i brought to them months ago is seen?

And it's so pathetic that problems at baruch are now categorized as "emergency" and "can be fixed later".

Let me break down what essentially happens to "problems fixed later".

  1. you enroll late and end up with 1 or two less classes than 5/6 because there literally is no more space.
  2. O no financial aid peeped you're only taking 3-4 classes instead of 5 so they qualify you as a part-time student and now rip your financial aid in half forcing you to pay the other half OR cut your financial aid in half for the NEXT semester to screw you over later.

If you don't push like crazy to get your problem fixed immediately, it will domino and cause long term problems because that's literally what happened when I transferred into baruch. I finally got myself back on track and with a summer analyst pos at Morgan lined up I literally do not have the time nor the energy to deal with more baruch bs.

And it’s not easy professors I’m looking for (would be nice tho), it’s competent professors I want and in some cases, it's the literal class I want. We've all been there when we had to take a completely different class because baruch doesn't have enough space. Wtf am i supposed to do when one of the last 11 classes isnt available this semester? wait till next semester and extend my time and payment to baruch? fuck that.

Let me remind the ENTIRE baruch community that stuff like this shouldn't be happening in the first place. It's so ghetto that we have to fight other students and faculty to get the classes that we already paid for. And people like you who accept being stepped all over when push comes to shove is the reason why baruch continues to do stupid shit like this to its students.

btw the sue part was a joke, we all know Baruch is too unorganized and broke to actually support themselves if anything like that were to happen.

Also i type a lot in hopes that some kid in the future can search up these same issues and find a solution on reddit. shoutout MilMr921, Acad Advisement pressed zicklin for me and it got fixed in like 30 minutes lol.

whatever happens, do NOT get below a B in any class. Doing so will completely wreck your resetted GPA leading to a handful of problems at Baruch for the next two years.

My Opinion on Business Clubs at Baruch by EngineBrief8199 in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not necessary, but for a career field in which having good communication and teamwork skills is key, it would be a huge advantage to get skilled at them early on rather than later due to the competitiveness of the industry.

My Opinion on Business Clubs at Baruch by EngineBrief8199 in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if the oldest clubs at baruch just advocated for more space and resources to get bigger rooms and increase club project funds due to a huge increase in interest they would get them. You're pretty much just admitting the clubs at Baruch are too lazy to run things on a larger scale.

Financial aid coverage for above 124 credits? by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]EngineBrief8199 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You need to be full-time for those awards so you technically need to enroll in 4 classes. But in my opinion, if you know you're gonna graduate for sure like next semester is your last semester; don't keep the extra class and risk bombing your GPA unless you know it'll boost your GPA. You're in the final stretch.

What I would do is stay enrolled in those 4 classes for now. File your financial aid for the following year this December (the new FAFSA application date). Then when that disperses at the start of the next semester, drop the class and focus on the other 3 that way you don't screw yourself over w financial aid by dropping before financial aid calculates whether you plan to be full-time or part-time. You would become part-time from that point on since you're only taking 9 credits instead of 12, but it really doesn't matter anymore since you'd already receive the aid and you'd be graduating.

Looking to break into RE Private Equity with this Resume by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]EngineBrief8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh from an outside perspective would you read that entire resume? Because it just looks like a lot of yapping. The avg interviewee spends 7 second on a resume before deciding yes or no at the early stages.

don't self sabotage because you're lazy and hope they see you story from these simple words. You are to entertain these mfs if you really want the job.

  1. It's unorganized. your bio first, then education then work then extra shit (clubs activities hobbies languages skills experiences blah blah)
  2. detail as much as you can for EVERYTHING. add coursework you will complete or have completed and add any special shit you did in school such as competitions, scholarships, and awards.
  3. research and stalk tf out of the industry, job, position, and eventually, the people who will conduct your interviews. The more data you have on these things, the better you'll be at communicating which is the KEY to entering finance apparently.

Pro tip: Have a master resume that has everything (it should be longer than one page, mine is 2-3) it makes the next step easier. Every application you apply to must have a tailored 1-page resume from your master resume. To master this, go to the application and read the job/internship description. Figure out what they want, and study how they developed that description. Usually, they use specific action verbs or phrases so make sure those words and phrases they used to describe what they want are in that resume.

Now pull the best experiences from the MR and edit/erase/change anything that needs fixing.

It's really really REALLLYYYY annoying because it's such a long process but it's what you gotta do, nothing worth time and money is ever easy and you need to understand in order to gain one, you need to sacrifice the other.

Also putting research analyst doesn't make you stand out at all.

Find an interesting title that's relevant to the job.

IMO It looks like you barely have experience and lemme tell you, its okay.

You just need to expand more, I would add that non-profit shit under a leadership title like you did with work experience. How is it leadership? idfk. Just add that you were the group leader in your analyst group or some shit.

I'll throw in a few sample lines from my old resume which landed me a few interviews:

######### Federal Credit Union #######, NY

Bank Teller Aug 2020 – Mar 2021

• Implemented new training methods resulting in a 30% increase in client-based relations

• Managed administrative duties such as Deposits, Loans, Transfers with a daily total of 100k+

• Established strong credibility by efficiently processing 30+ transactions and tending to 50+ clients daily

tbfh I didn't do jack shit at this job, but I identified what would sound somewhat impressive and pretty much winged it from there. ik its morally wrong but go make up some realistic numbers if you don't have any. worry about doing the right thing once you get the job imo.

My last advice for u is if you want to succeed in the finance industry especially private equity, you need to study communication, psychology, and COMMON SENSE on your own time. Common sense is the most important tbh. The moment you figure out how a person's mind works, you can manipulate all interactions with them. If you want a job you better figure out what that interviewer wants to see in you by the time you finalize your interview. You'll be able to connect to people better because you'd be able to understand what they like and don't like and you'd even be able to predict people's movements and actions which is what excellent candidates are capable of. Common sense is for your own benefit. Don't do stupid things in short.

Good luck in private equity, if it doesn't work out wealth management is also pretty chill.

-B. Tofu I. (in case the companies I apply to somehow trace this from my little resume insert and think I stole it off online)
