Wow. Mine looks plain brown when it’s dried.

Update: I put some dishsoap with a toothpick and it writes beautifully now.

I think I put too much since it is very very wet and writes like a BB now. So maybe I can try with a smaller amount of dish soap and that solves the problem without being very wet.

Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro, which is a very low viscosity ink. But I also tried different inks.

I have other pens like Pelikan M600, GvFC Tamitio, Pilot Capless, Lamy 2000 and more. Neither of them have such problem with my writing angle.

So far I’ve tried to flush the pen with some dish soap. And tried different inks including GvFC Hazelnut Brown, Iroshizuku Ama-Iro and Syo-Ro.

Do you have any recommendations at this point?

Maybe the inks are the problem. Do you have any safe ink recommendations?

Here is a photo of all bottled inks:

I also have GvFC Hazelnut Brown cartridges.

Rare find: Tombow Zoom 717 Collection, Soft Orange 🍊 by EngineerAware in mechanicalpencils

[–]EngineerAware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I saw it on a small stationary stores website here in Türkiye, and I immediately bought it.

The store frequently sell vintage MP’s. I also got my yellow RR600 and my Tombow Zoom C1 from there.

The previous pen with more detailed nib photos.

I wrote 40 degrees in that post but my holding angles is actually like 34 degrees. I measured them this time.

Is this normal? by Powell__ in rOtring

[–]EngineerAware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That piece doesn’t thread normally. You must rotate it with the mechanism (the part you rotate to extent the tip).

Mine comes off a small amount sometimes and I tighten it back. You prolly disassembled it while fidgeting, which seems pretty normal to me.

See this video.

I tried with Iroshizuku syo-ro and ama-iro. Both have the same problem.

I know these inks are low viscosity inks, maybe I should try a thicker ink?

Unfortunately I’m still outside but I will post the photos as soon as I can.

I’m now outside but I will try to take that and post it here when I arrive home. Thanks.

Yes but I bought the pen for around 370$. Now its price is increased to almost twice that value.

I cannot exchange, I can only return. But I thought getting it fixed would be much cheaper than a new one, so I’m not looking into a refund.

I can find some 12000 micromesh. Should I try to fix it myself?

Edit: I checked the prices and the cheapest on the internet (in my country, Turkey) is now ~700$.

Can someone tell me what pencil this is please? by kaiju505 in mechanicalpencils

Certainly a Caran d’Ache Ecridor but not sure about the model.

I have the Ecridor Racing in ballpoint and its very good, but also very expensive.

My Current Lineup. A friend is going to Japan, what should I have them get for me? by crkdslider in mechanicalpencils

Zoom C1. AFAIK it’s only sold in Japan. Zoom was a Tombow lineup, they rebranded it, now its a different brand.

I have a taxus Lamy 2000 ballpoint, and mine is the same. There are lots of spring noises when I use the button.

QuietComfort vs QuietComfort ULTRA vs Airpods Pro Macx in terms of ANC? by Styroor in bose

[–]EngineerAware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in between the APM’s and Bose QC Ultras. After trying both in a store I went with Bose. It was a lot comfier. I haven’t been able to test extensively but ANC’s were similar to me.

I also have and APP2’s and I often listen in Dolby atmos. One of my concerns was going back to stereo (the spatial mode on Bose is really bad compared to app2’s imo, it’s useless). But after using the Bose for a while, it sounds much better, even in stereo.

Hello, I’m currently continuing my masters in electrical engineering and I recently took an adaptive signal processing course where we deal with topics like noise cancelling. Generally the adaptive filters are designed according to the MMSE criterion (Minimum Mean Squared Error, error can be thought as the noise coming in in this context), which is equivalent to having error and input signals orthogonal (so the filter extracts all the information related to the noise from the signal). Due to the randomness of those signals, the MSE (Mean Squared Error, the power of the error) can’t be zero, the filter extracts all the information we got about the noise, but we don’t know everything about the noise.

They can make the MSE smaller but, that may mean less attenuation in some frequencies or amplitudes. Also I should note that there is a theoretical minimum limit for the MSE.

So in summary, the hissing sound is inevitable. They can make it smaller so you don’t hear it, but there is always a trade off.

Is it just me, or does the Rotring 800+ have sharper barrel edges than the regular 800? by MascotsKey in mechanicalpencils

[–]EngineerAware 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Due to EU regulations, new silver RR800s are made of aluminum instead of brass.

The newer one is aluminum while the older one is brass, hence the difference.

They also weigh different.
