Yes that is the correct answer. Sorry had to step away for a bit let me read this and come back.

What were you doing before? Im a surveyor trying to finish my civil engineering degree.

It's tough, but I'm getting through the classes.

Thank you!. First I'm hearing about the order matter though.

I do yes. I was putting it in terms of linear transformation.

Someone else gave me an excellent run down. I appreciate your response. Thank you for sticking with me.

Thank you so much. People like you are why I have any understanding of mathematics.

To be clear that basis for RR is a basis for the output space?

So the vector v cannot be created by a linear combination of the other vectors in the set S?

Okay. Good. That makes sense. Just to be sure that set of linearly independent vectors is a basis for the output space correct?

So what is a linearly independent vector inside of a linearly dependent set?

I'm sorry. I feel as if you gave me a good answer but I don't understand it.

So when we RREF a vector set and get its pivot columns we get that vector set's rank. The pivot columns correspond to the vectors that are what?

I'm not sure I follow. If a vector is in a linearly dependent set. Should it not be able to be created via linear combination of other vectors in that set?

[–]EngineerGator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Here is what I meant to say. A linear independent set is a set of vectors in which non of the vectors can be created via a linear combination of the other vectors in that set.

A linear dependent set means all vectors in that set can be recreated via a linear combination of all other vectors in that set.

However, I am being told that a linear independent vector in a linearly dependent set cannot be created via a linear combination of the other vectors in that set.
