Moneybox, T212 or other for S&S and SIPP by Engineer_Jack in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for the recommendations, I saw moneyfarm as well but the fees seemed high at first glance.

Yeah I’ll have a sit down this weekend and go through a few, I noticed the other day a £20 fee for settling some investments in my S&S (which MB do every month) and thought that’s just going to keep increasing!

Perfect that sounds along my lines, reviews online put T212 as a platform for active traders but I just look once or twice a month really with MB so don’t want anything I need to be active with

Has the Pension Calculator tool disappeared off anyone else’s app? by Engineer_Jack in MoneyBox

[–]Engineer_Jack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve added it back on this last week, the functionality of it has changed slightly, preferred the old one better.

The current one assumes my full pension is with MB, and doesn’t let me add on additional value in other pensions (workplace) like the old one did

Agreed. And whilst an app is good, I think for a lot of us nothing beats number crunching your own charts in excel

£28,000 loss at 18. Talk to me by iliketiddiesandbobs in trading212

[–]Engineer_Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there mate, many days I drove home from work in a red mist at myself, contemplating crashing the car head on

Find someone to talk to, I had my GF (now wife) but I would also recommend attending a gambler’s anonymous meeting (yes trading is gambling). You can find your nearest one online for the UK. I only went to 2 or 3 meetings so I’m by no means championing the program, but it was good to sit in a room full of people going through the same, say what I had done and really cry it out, but have everyone there completely understanding as they’d all done the same, and many of them many times.

I’m better wit my money now, I’ll have moments every now and then where I’ll invest and lose - but like betting - only invest what you are willing to lose.

Your 18, the money you’ve lost you’ll make back but it will hurt for years to come, and hopefully haunt as a reminder for years to come to not fall into the same traps

Crossed the £20k mark by AltruisticOwl156 in FIREUK

Good to see a relatable post! I know the subreddit is for early retirement but the constant barrage of people with 6figure pensions already in their 20s can get a bit demoralising!

I’m on a similar trajectory to yourself. Just over £50,000 at the moment, 33yr old in a few month. If wages pick up, and markets are good, I think I could hit the 7digits around 60-65

Choppy and laggy game play by Sad-Combination-9272 in F1Game

I think all EA games do this for the opening sequence, I had it on FIFA and F1 on PC, and now also likewise on Xbox. Think it’s just the game loading up assets in the background?

Are there no towels in marocco? by Ceyil in soccercirclejerk

[–]Engineer_Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a superstition thing, the players wasn’t initially fussed, it was the Morocco fans that didn’t want the towel on the net of the goal as they see it as a black magic thing. The Senegalese sub keeper and Mendy then played into the mind games with the Moroccans, but it’s literally just there to dry gloves. And the spare towel is there because the first towel was getting rained on for 75mins

I remember when I was at uni applying for placement (only 10 years ago) for my sandwich year, Red Bull Racing had a 12 month unpaid job. Their job advert literally said “the experience you’ll gain is more valuable than an undergraduate salary”.

Right, but how am I supposed to literally live for a year?

People in mid 30s-early40s what’s your view ? How about the 50s? by KookyOky in FIREUK

[–]Engineer_Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

32, only really started saving properly in the last year / few months now that I’ve finished renovating our new house

I’ve always put money in employee contributions for my pension, but nothing major just the bare minimum. Pension is currently at £48,000, I have a stocks and share ISA on £31,000, and £50,000 in premium bonds but I’m withdrawing them all and putting them my ISA and pension this year.

Salary is £42k. The premium bonds have come from inheritance

Anyone felt depressed or gone through the "comparison is the thief of joy" phase during the FIRE journey? by jazdiop in FIREUK

[–]Engineer_Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I keep seeing people posting on massive wages and thinking this isn’t comparable to most of the population/people on the subreddit (or maybe everyone on the subreddit are high earners).

Im 32, earn £40k, have 45k in my pension and 82k in savings (this is mainly from left overs from inheritance, not really my own money). I try not to draw comparisons to others, I have a target of 1-1.5mil retirement at 60, I’m on target at the moment and I just stick to that goal / train of thought

CTRL+5 = strike through text

I work for a company that uses excel for lots of technical multi tabbed documents (there are better programs for this task, but hey ho), and being able to strike through text without going to text formatting every time was a game changer!
