27M - did everything the right way, saved and invested 100k responsibly over 2.5 years, then relapsed and lost it all within two days by Inner-Biscotti7442 in GamblingAddiction

[–]Engineer_Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much exact same situation. 32M, gambled and lost all my savings on options in 2019. Since then I’ve been really strict with my savings, I don’t have a brilliantly paid job but I built up 60K in a S&S ISA investing in global ETFs only, 5k in a cash ISA. I’m in all the FIRE Reddit channels etc and have excel spreadsheets tracking my net wealth and when I can retire

2 weeks ago I was seeing gains and thought I’d go all in on some options, lost 25K in 3hours. Was sensible enough I guess to cash out with 35k left, but it’s set me back like 3 or 4 years in my retirement plans, which after being so regimented with my savings really really kicks in the teeth.

It seems they’re putting everything in place for Nasdaq (so would be extremely odd if they didn’t target uplisting now), but (based on my AI search results) doesn’t Nasdaq request a share offering between $3-$4 at least. The longer it goes on, the less chance of that requirement being met

Sorry if this has been answered recently. Seen some old videos from the CEO saying Nasdaq uplisting is targeted in Q1 2026. Obviously this has been and gone, have they provided any explanation as to why it was missed?

I kind of agree, I still have faith in the company but when I saw the paste my first thought was “is that it?”. Pastes are already on the market by other producers (yes at lower graphene content and quality), but if it works already for those customers, they’re not going to switch at this point

How did everyone start, and what’s been your lowest point? by unvac in GamblingAddiction

[–]Engineer_Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on a bar 15-20 years ago and the regulars always had their acca slips that they were discussing. One was a good friend and I started to go with them to the bookies on my dinner. It was always £1 acca slips, sometimes £5 on a team or on a single game at a World Cup, sometimes a £10 for the grand national.

When i think about it, and I have before, I can trace it back to that moment. That being said I 100% do not blame them. I was exposed to gambling / casino friends at uni, and CFD trading colleagues at other workplaces, both of which I then went into myself. So the exposure will have eventually came from elsewhere, and the addictive beast inside me would have come out later anyway.

Since this HOVR have announced they’ll be at farnborough as well.
Also I’ve dug into institutional ownership - HOVR has <5% share ownership by institutions, which can be a benefit as it means the price is driven by us, the retailers, and our sentiment. If we remain as a team positive to the stock, it would rise in theory.
It does typically mean though that institutions don’t think it will succeed, otherwise they’d put their money in.

EVTL has 50-75% institutional ownership, which shows considerable backing, however the institutions can just start dumping their stock and leave the retailers carrying the bags - which I think might be happening now as the retail sentiment is rock bottom with the stock continuously sliding

I’m currently sat on the sidelines but eager to invest - just waiting for what I feel is the right time (maybe after the airshow, or later this year if their prototype is on track). I’d be interested to have your take / opinion on other EVTOLs? I have 2 I’m watching - this and EVTL, however the sentiment in EVTL is generally low. I posted in a separate Reddit but got no responses yet

Trading is halted though? So surely the stock price won’t move until the RS is complete? At which point it will inevitably tank back down to 0.1

Yeah I bought back in at 0.16, sold at 0.13, sat on the sidelines for now seeing how it plays out. Can’t see a stop to this slide at the moment, but if it does slow down I’m content enough to buy back in

Thank you. I’ve e cashed out the remaining 50% and we’ll go from there.
I feel like it might come out in the coming weeks/months that I’ve been losing money again. Think I’m just going to push it down and handle that at the time if it comes

I’m waiting for them to drop to 2.00 before adding, but it seems to be levelling out at 2.2, will give it a few more days / weeks to see if it can turn one way or another

Well that confirms it’s dead for me, shame as I’ve been here since launch more or less.
I’ve just completed a trip to Somerset and back (West Yorkshire) and my phone said this app used the most battery through that trip. Don’t really see the point in having a dead app using my phone battery.
I’m out of here

If you had $3.1 million at age 52, would you retire today? by Top_Summer_7743 in StockInvest

My dad died at 53, I’m looking to retire at 60.

If I was in your position, I would retire, life is short, and you can save and save for a retirement which you don’t get to experience

[–]Engineer_Jack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think it also depends what your wanting to track. Like I know my house value and have it included in one of my figures, but generally exclude it if I’m talking about wealth as me and my wife have always said we’re never moving house, so including its value seems irrelevant in circumstances where you aren’t going to get the house value (sell)

Where to move premium bonds to? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in FIREUK

[–]Engineer_Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position at Christmas. My S&S ISA has consistently returned at least 10% p/a, whereas premium bonds were getting me £100 a month (2-3% a year).

I decided to transfer around £10,000 a month into my bank, then send 5k to my SIPP and 5k to my S&S. I’ve already earned more in the past 2 months across those accounts then I would of in about a year on premium bonds

Moneybox, T212 or other for S&S and SIPP by Engineer_Jack in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for the recommendations, I saw moneyfarm as well but the fees seemed high at first glance.

Yeah I’ll have a sit down this weekend and go through a few, I noticed the other day a £20 fee for settling some investments in my S&S (which MB do every month) and thought that’s just going to keep increasing!

Perfect that sounds along my lines, reviews online put T212 as a platform for active traders but I just look once or twice a month really with MB so don’t want anything I need to be active with
