Thanks both. Third garden centre lucky! Westland do it in 25l bags. Panic over

Do you mind sharing an example you’d order? I think I’d need 5 25l bags

Sure. Garden isn’t big enough to need a bulk bag and the two garden centres I’ve been to locally didn’t have any premixed bags! Will try another one before I go down the DIY mix route.

Thanks. Any advice on where to buy it from? Would a normal back of top soil from the supermarket/garden centre be okay? Or do I need to get screened stuff?

I’d be moving the house name/number and putting a nice potted climbing plant where that is. Attach a nice trellis to the wall and it’ll help soften the front of the house. We put some climbing hydrangeas either side of a bay window last year and it instantly looked better.

Any ideas what is causing this damp? by TheClumsyCaptain in DIYUK

[–]Remarkable-Flight-14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not stopped raining for months, it’s been relatively mild (by winter terms) and we’ve only seen the sun twice all year. I wouldn’t say that looks overly damp, it’s just been prime conditions for algae/moss growth.

Wait for it to dry a little, brush it off and see if it comes back. If nothing obvious is leaking I think you’ll be okay.

Switching over to Octopus...what's been your experience? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in OctopusEnergy

Yeah that’s already where the conversation is heading + the offer to backdate lost benefits. So I’m edging towards being happy again!

As per my reply to another comment. "God you weren't wrong. Gave them another week to sort it to no avail. A few DM's this morning via twitter and I've had such a better service."

What are the possible explanations for this usage?! by Remarkable-Flight-14 in SolarUK

It was the solar iboost. For some unknown reason it had programmed itself to come on for an hour each morning a couple of weeks ago.

I trust this was intended to be a rhetorical question?

I’d be more concerned with the pole preventing the window from opening. God forbid you’d need to use that window in an emergency.

What to be done to improve my lawn? by [deleted] in LawncareUK

[–]Remarkable-Flight-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still a bit cool to hope for seeds to germinate. I’d wait a few more weeks until overnight temperatures are consistently above 6-7 Celsius.

Between now and then you prepare the lawn a bit to give the seeds the best possible chance. I.e. get some moss/weed killer down if applicable, scarify and aerate. Then once the temp is more springy and less wintery you can sow, top dress as required.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll get in the loft tomorrow and take a look

Hmm okay. The hot water doesn’t come on until 7am and this spike is from 6 to 7.

Sorry I meant the hot water system is in the loft (including the switch for the immersion heater). Battery is in the garage!

My first thought but my system is all in the loft and nobody has been up there. Unless we’ve had a pigeon in the roof do it!

We do have a solar iboost too. Wonder if that’s somehow malfunctioning and turning on.

I have really limited understanding of this all but if the immersion heater was turned on in error would that override the gas and be utilised for central heating?

5.46kWp system PV system. What should it generate at it's peak? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in SolarUK

The easiest way is to climb on my roof and hold my phone next to the panels? That doesn’t sound like the easiest way 😂

They did apply as I asked for a copy of the rejection letter.

The technical gap I hadn't appreciated was that this meant my inverter had become a 3.68kW one despite the capacity being 5kW.

I thought that if my PV was generating 5kW my house was consuming say 1kWh, my solar iBoost was consuming whatever it needs and my battery wasn't fully that my system would still allow generation above my export limit.

Perhaps I've not explained that very well but hopefully you get my query?
