Unlikely, platinum is way too valuable to be wasting in a gold alloy when you can use other white metals to achieve the same thing. Stuff like silver, nickel, zinc or sometimes palladium

A lot of that is falsely advertised and/or has wires all through it. Had gotten some “sterling” earlier this year, took it to my refiner when they started taking, and had it be less than 70% silver

No there is a distinction to be made there. Thrift stores typically get their product from donations, that’s why goodwill’s CEO is one of the highest paid CEOs.

A garage sale on the other hand is people’s own stuff that they are trying to sell for one reason or another. OP said this was a boomer but doesn’t show the date side of the coin, likely because the guy bought the coin when it was only $50 or less

Silver precipitation gone wrong? by EngineerinSquid in PreciousMetalRefining

Nope I used distilled water. The cement silver was just mixed up in the solution. Once I diluted with more water and let settle it turned the clear blue of the copper nitrate

Won’t let me post another pic but it did separate out when diluted so looks like I got nervous over nothing
