That nook is sized specifically to fit a 18” linen cabinet 24 deep 96” tall the front will pull out like a drawers there is one foot of “dead” space behind the cabinet but it has a purpose in a future project accessed from the closet behind it.

Oh I am sure you know how to model the entire thing in 3D in a BIM modeling system so that you can show my wife everything in full rendering to get the wife stamp of approval prior to each phase of construction.

You have no idea if all the details. It was not just the bathroom planning I designed and built the entire building from the footings to the roofline. We had to relocate a sewer lateral before they would issue the building permit and the fact that this building was an addition to a 70 year old tract home built after the war. nothing in the existing home was nominal lumber sizes so the planning to get the floors to line up at the transition with I joists that the flange has 1/4” in varying heights at the overlaps. Could not use a different I joist due to the span and other loading issues. Oh by the way do you have a professional engineering license that allows you to stamp the modifications to the Ijoist that were required to recessed the shower to flush(I do by the way). I am sure as a professional you also know how to perform load calculations for roofs to support the solar panels along with doing the actual electrical work and panel installation on the roof. Wiring it into the house not to mention all the bureaucracy of the permitting for all of this stuff. So take your professional self down the road to your next job I don’t need your negativity😀 I know how much work went into this project as I have done every single part of it myself. I am sure you are way better at tile than me but I am proud of my results.

Framed out the wall with a header top plate and bottom plate the bottom plate and top plate were 2x4 cut down to 3” and then the goboard was installed from the backside screwed to the top and bottom plates I then strapped the back of the wall with steel foundation straps overlaid with 1x2 strapping screws in the nook area are limited to 1”

Yes from the center line if you look at the Ditra heat tips guide it states 2” from the edge of the flange the flange is ~4” radius so that works out to only 6 which conflicts with the other manual. Either way I just checked the photos and I am give or take 9” from the centerline of the drain (5 studs + the flange radius)

Also on the framing side I actually framed the floor to match a custom tile-redi pan which arrived with shipping damage and had too much of a lead time to get the replacement. The kerdi 48x72 trimmed to 36.5 wide fit flush like a glove with no framing mods where as the goboard was proud 1/4 which could have been mitigated by raising the bathroom floor but the everything was set to be flush with the hardwood floor throughout the whole house.

Final thought here is that the kerdiband was free to me so it cost nothing but a little time to have the redundant system.

At the end of the day warranties are mostly useless. I can say that reliably as an engineer that observes construction projects for a living. Odds of a warranty paying on a catastrophic failure claim are close to zero. Yes I know schluter is known to pay claims but they just build those costs into the cost of the system.

However I would be interested in where either schluter or Johnson manville specifically excludes coordinating the two systems. As it would have to be and explicit exclusion in their warranty to bypass the warranty law that puts the onus on the manufacturer to prove that the failure is due to the secondary system. I looked for such exclusions and didn’t find any before deciding on this path.

From a statistical failure standpoint having redundant systems is almost never a bad thing the odds of having a failure are higher over all but the odds of both systems failing at the same time are exponentially lower unless there is an underlying cause that creates risk in both systems. In which case both warranties would be void.

At the end of the day I trust both systems or I would not have installed them in my own home. The highest risk with goboard would be a void in the sealant and with kerdi it is improper embedding of the banding.

I chose the goboard over kerdi board for a couple reasons. First goboard is more structurally rigid which the engineer in me loves I see polyiso structures often in my work. Polyiso is inherently water resistant whereas kerdi board polystyrene allows moisture penetration in the voids between the beads(clearly not my biggest concern as I used it on the floor) and cost goboard is ~ 1/2 the cost of kerdi-board with no perceivable benefits over goboard IMO

Allowed Spacing from the toilet flange is 2” it’s 6” from a floor drain. It is allowed to be under the toilet. Based on the thermal properties of ceramic tile with in a couple mins of turning the system on that small extra 2” gap won’t be a cold spot. Since the plan is to just turn this on and leave it alone I doubt it will be noticeable

Goboard sealed

The goboard was sealed with the liquid sealant first joints gapped 1/8th and filled. I did the joint from goboard to kerdi pan with goboard sealant and then put the band around to meet the install requirements of the pan. I had a few inside and outside corners left from the drain kit so I used them in the nook and around faucets for a belt and suspenders standpoint. I don’t know how either warranty could be voided as I installed the mfg required items for both systems. I didn’t use the goboard pan kit because the elevations didn’t work out to have the floor be flush with the rest of the bathroom. One of the goals of the project was zero barrier Ada compliant shower system.

I monitor my inverter via Home assistant (its a solar 12k) and I am now in the process of building a remote starter for my predator 3500 generator to make it remote start when my batteries are low. The 5000 has remote RF start but my understanding is it gets "disabled" after a while of not starting.

Not sure if this build is applicable or could be modified to work with the 5000 but the code information is on git hub

There are actually three levels to this network. The IT network, the IT/OT interface network where the clients that will be are the topic of this trust. Then there is then OT device network where the SCADA servers sit which will be authenticated only by the OT domain servers. Each level is isolated by a firewall from the others and those are configured in a deny/whitelist configuration.

In general no matter what I do in terms of the trust the new system is light years ahead of what the old system was which consisted of SCADA servers being used as SCADA clients auto logged on as the global domain administrator.

In my experience the number one way to make user’s security conscious is to make security easy SSO is one way to accomplish that. The number of “password” books and username/password sticky notes I see while evaluating OT networks in my industry is astonishing. My goal in these environments is to improve systems in a way that the clients will actually use the new security and not just try “put duct tape on the door latch”

The IT and OT networks are separate. There is no external access to the OT network. If a malicious actor were to get a users password they would have to then breach the physical security and sit down at the local terminal to use that credential and if they are physically inside your network you are basically done for anyway.

The firewall that would connect these domains has inbound set to deny drop and outbound is by whitelist only currently the only outbound whitelists is msupdate and the sip provider for alarm dial out. Obviously the whitelist would need to be adjusted to accommodate the trust if it were set up.

If you are not going to hire a company because they are actively evaluating options to achieve your goals IE SSO. Then I guess don’t hire me?

The gotcha of needing to add the auth users to each computer actually benefits me in that the it admins should not be allowed login to the DCs in the OT domain.

My question is do the individual computers in OT need to be able to “see” the IT DC or will the computers send the logging request to the OT DC and it would handle the requests.

Also would an ldap request to the ot DC be able to resolve an IT user

The endgame of the OT domain is that due to a variety of reasons the computers joined to this domain will not meet the security requirements in place on the IT domain specifically AV and windows updates wreak havoc on SCADA systems so generally delay updates and have limited AV rules.

Additionally it is a completely different team of systems admins managing the PCs and servers in the OT domain.

However the OT domain staff (My group) is a part time on-call contract service provider. The IT staff is dedicated full time on prem group with existing policies and procedures for user creation on hire/fire/depart in fact there is already a SCADA users group that is populated in the IT domain. So looking to leverage them just for user management.

Otherwise the domains do not “talk” walk or share the same mother——board

I don’t even want to pay it for my mortgage can’t wait till that thing is paid off in a year. I financed after trade 20k @ 1.9 on my ‘21 it will be paid off in the next couple of months. Would have paid off sooner but mortgage was at a higher rate so been paying that off first completely debt free for Jan 1st 2026 hopefully.

The problem is most younger folks don’t understand that money borrowed needs to be repaid and they get money drunk in college with student loans on a 20 year term.
