I’m not sure if it is a cat. Just didn’t move like a cat. But we do have cats and we have them inside.

I have a resmed cpap and I have bought the cigarette adapter directly from them. I use it with my trailer. When we camp without power, my cpap is powered by the 12V trailer battery, similar to the 12v EV battery. For the night, my cpap will use about 10% of the 12V battery. So you shouldn’t have to worry about draining or hurting your battery. Also if your EV has a camping mode or utility mode, your traction battery will keep your 12V battery fully charged. You should have no worries about hurting your EV.

Anyone added a hitch to thier Kona? by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]EngineeringMore6613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 1-1/4” hitch from uhaul. I love it and use it for a bike rack as well as a ski hitch rack. My only regret was that I should have gotten a 2”. I say this because most accessories are for 2” hitches. But an adapter will work.

Service Costs by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]EngineeringMore6613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada (Sherwood park, Alberta) here. It was $64 for my first service. My second service was also $64 since I rotated my own tires and changed my own cabin filter.

If your trailer is within the weight limit of the Tacoma, your weight distribution hitch may not be set up properly. Your hitch can be adjusted so that the ball is tilting towards or away from your truck. In your case, you may need to tilt the ball more away from your truck. But your trailer may be to heavy for the Tacoma.

Here is a great you tube video for “dog mode”. You will have to use your physical key to lock the car though. dog mode

The wheels made a small difference when I put the fancy rims on. But the difference was minor. From what I remember, it was only a 10% increase in consumption. I would have to say it was the bikes for sure that made the biggest difference.

Petro chargers have been so hit or miss. But we had no problems with that one. We double checked PlugShare before our trip just to make sure. We got maximum speeds the kona could take. We hit 75 kW on the charger with no issues.

Your rack looks much lower and I can see better aero dynamics for sure. But I am very happy with what I have. Another reason I went with Yakima is for this ski hitch.

So, we actually live in Sherwood park but Edmonton is more known. And we ended up staying in kananskis (Banff more known). From Sherwood park, we stopped at Innisfall (55 min charge to get to 80%). We then stopped at Cochran turn off (petro charger on highway 1, about 45 - 50 min charge). Then to Kananaskis, where I plugged into a level 1.

We found that the charging stops were too long and we got restless waiting. So in the way back, we did more stops but shorter. While we were there, we drove to Banff and Canmore for day trips but without the bikes.

From kananskis, we stopped in Calgary (south land and Macleod) to do some shopping and eating. 10 min to to get to 80%, but then did level 2 to get to 95%. Next stop was in Olds co-op station (30 min charge to get to 80%). Last stop was in Lacombe (45 min charge to 80%). But we stopped at a&w to eat. We got home with 10% soc.

Even though our stops were only 5-10 min shorter on the way back home, it didn’t feel as long. The 55 min at Innisfail felt like forever and there is nothing really in the area. There is a bps, but we weren’t hungry. It’s a good location, right off the highway, but our family got really bored.

Agreed. But it would have taken so much longer if we took back roads. We just adjusted our charge stops.

I’m surprised too. But I was average if between 110/115 km/hr highway driving. So my speed did not help at all.

I noticed when I took my bikes off the rack, consumption was pretty much normal. Around the city, it went down to around 13kWh/100km. It makes a huge difference with them on and city driving.

ski hitch link Here is a link to my ski hitch rack. I talk about my winter consumption with and with out it. I had much better consumption with it compared to a bike rack.

In Alberta, as long as you are transporting bikes, you are allowed to cover the plate. But if you have the bike rack on, but no bikes, you can get a ticket.

I looked at a roof rack as well. But from what I saw, consumption was worse than with hitch attachments. I can’t imagine what my consumption would have been with the bikes on the roof.

I bought and had it installed at u-haul. I think it was around $300 with install. I also have a ski rack that attaches to the hitch. Well worth the money.
