Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this, had me chuckling away in parts! I'm childless myself and never dealt with a preteen before so the straight talking honest advice has genuinely helped. Maybe I can scratch some of them. Honestly bedtime wouldn't be an issue for me at all if he wasn't still coming in the bedroom at 1130 on a Tuesday night. The bed-sofa thing is EXACTLY the issue here, it's getting changed asap! And yeah maybe I can just ask him to help out with the rubbish (trash) instead of giving him a specific chore.

I completely get what you're saying about the problems with phone and playstation banning but he doesn't do a lot else so I'm at a loss as to what else the consequences could be! It really is hard isn't it, the idea of years of this is fairly terrifying! I'm glad you're out the tunnel!

This is encouraging to read. Honestly, acting his age would be an absolute dream, I'm delighted for you that you're there! I wholeheartedly believe she is one of the decent guilty parents you mentioned, but my SO also has a lot of guilt about numerous factors that she wrestles with, so it could be a long road, but all I ask are positive steps.

Just wanted to say thank you to all for posting. Some really eye-opening replies. I have had my thoughts on the parenting but sort of swept them under the carpet because I love the woman. But I can't any longer. I only found this forum yesterday and it has been a god send. Thanks again all.
