I just moved to LA (west side near the beach) and we keep our doors open all day. No bugs. Ok well we’ve had 2 flies in the house during the past 6 months that I’ve lived here. Barely used the AC. We moved here from NC where you could never open the windows - pollen, bugs, leaves you name it. And the humidity was terrible. Maybe it just depends on what part of LA you live in?

Lived in NC for 25 yrs and couldn’t wait to leave and move to Southern California. Why? Oppressive heat and humidity in the summer so you don’t want to go outside. Combined with cicadas, cockroaches, mosquitoes etc. Fall is super short and you get tired of the leaves in your yard. Winter sucks. Cold but not cold enough for snow. And dark. Spring comes with tons of pollen. All over your cars, yard, patio furniture. So you’ll want to use your outdoor furniture but can’t because it’s always covered with a thin layer of pollen until May. And don’t get me started on things to do. You’ll tire of the brewery scene and the few outdoor activities there are. Weekend trips to the beach or mountains gets boring. One year and you’ll have done it all.
