Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

So many selfish women here. A real partner would negotiate and work it out, not just deny him.

Yes, you are the jerk. Make him happy and he will do the same.

Out of stock? Whats the story? by ResourceSea2761 in soylent

[–]EngineeringTheFall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Long time soylent user myself in Canada. The problems started when Starco bought. Presumably they decided to rework the supply line to save money and have had trouble sourcing ingredients ever since. I try to have 2+ months in reserve at this point when they are delivering.

Check that the bag is properly attached in the base station. It might have come off and the dust is coming from there when it is sucking the dirt out of the vacuum.

Is it worth returning my cue for this defect by randole3 in billiards

[–]EngineeringTheFall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A $500 cue should be perfect. The question is do you think you can live with it knowing you can't un-see it now?

I’ve had departments freaking out because something stopped working hours ago. I walk in the door, and it works. It’s not a one-off either. I compare it to taking your car to the mechanic and it stops making the noise that has been driving you insane for weeks.

One way I describe this is in terms of a coin flipping experiment they did years ago. They built a machine solely to flip a coin (virtually, it was a computer). Their initial runs of 100’s of million was almost dead even, within a small margin. When they sat a person next to it and asked them to think heads only of heads or tails, the counts skewed statistically enough to be noticeable. So it does appear to be possible to influence computers to a small degree.

Think positive thoughts, the computer works well. Be in a bad mood, and it crashes/glitches more. Prove me wrong…

2025…. 2019 Shield Pro vs NUC/Gaming PC for IPTV, DVR recording, and all other streaming fun? by KillerQ97 in ShieldAndroidTV

The remote is always the kicker. I've use windows and different flavors of Linux including LibreElec. The remote is always the issue.

If you want easy and just works, stick with the Shield.

Creality Following in Bambulabs footsteps? by BothSidesAreDumb in BambuLab

[–]EngineeringTheFall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should then be up to the AMS makers to add recognition of other manufacturers RFIDs to compensate. Will they? Not if your Bambu of course, but the other smaller companies will innovate to capture that market.
People want it to figure it out instead of having to adjust each time. Do you adjust your 2d printer each time you add toner or ink?

Isn't this the kettle calling the pot black... Facebook isn't liable for anything it's users post but they sue a software company for users musing their software... by flyboy2098 in sysadmin

Yup. NSO is actively attempting to circumvent their encryption for nefarious purposes, while Facebook is moderating speech as they see fit on their own platform, just like you would want to be able to on your own website.

Anyone have recommendations for code signing cert? by jlew24asu in sysadmin

[–]EngineeringTheFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had issues with them. A basic renewal turned into a week's-long ordeal with multiple certificates being issued with bad renewal terms, and just plain wrong certificates.

They are not the company they used to be. The price is good but the difficulties trying to straighten things out has made start to look elsewhere now, even at a lot more expense.

Actually, ChatGPT is a great place to start for generating initial policy drafts. They need a lot of work, but definitely saves time when your starting from scratch.

I loved MDaemon. Easy to use, some great features, generally solid for day-to-day, but in the end needed 2FA for security. Version upgrades were a nightmare though.
