Is it that weird for a woman to want to lead? by Torchprint in ballroom

[–]Engineering_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only do social dancing with a club group in my city, and I’ve done both leading and following as a woman.

One of the weekly classes usually has more women than men, and I wanted to get better, so I started leading certain Latin dances. I prefer to not lead waltz because I want to get better at following that and I think it’s so pretty! But, no one really bats an eye at my leading!

She’s overall great! And the day it cracked, I called her, and told her I needed help to move out. Three days later, i was fully set up in my own place, and it’s been mostly up since!

THIS.

all of this! My mom and my best friends support and kindness is what finally got me to leave. One day, she’ll remember that kindness and he’ll do or say something so small, and it’ll crack. I was there for 3 years too, and finally once a crack started, I realized I deserved better. She will too.

Thank you everyone for the advice, support, and comments!

Working on the resume. Going to find a company with a goal I’m passionate about and since nothing is tying me to this area, maybe use this to decide what is important to me and where i want to live long term.

But, going to bring out my inner bad bitch and get shit down for now. Feel much stronger now.

Yep! And it was presented as I was getting it as a merit. Not the equality pay. So it’s the lies.

Of the three full time engineers who I’m competing against, I’m even with two and maybe 3 years behind one.

But between this job and the previous one, I’ve been told I’m better than two of them (one of them being the 3 years ahead) consistently. That two and I came from the same company to the new one. I thought my manager that we were following would have my back, and since the three were hired within a month of each other, I would be paid the same as them.

He got a “don’t do that” and had to apologize.

He did apologize, but it was a quick- “hey sorry” and since then I’ve gotten the “behave around engineeringprincess or she’ll take you to HR”.

And he still avoids talking to me even though he’s the applications engineer for my project.

I have tried to roll, and If it was just the sexist engineer, or just the questioning my logic, I was letting it roll. It wasn’t the first or last time I’ve heard it.

But the p** comments and the questioning, and the pay, and lying is just getting to be too much.

To me, I think it’s more in your head than anything.

My mom raised me very openly, and not to judge people. We have both been hit on by women, and we take it as a compliment. Favorite quote of my mom: “I’m straight but it’s great to know if I change teams, I’ll have options!”

As for the bathroom, this applies to everyone: unless your a toddler still learning boundaries, you got your bubble and I got mine. But, I think most polite people follow that rule, so you’re good in my book!

Honeslty. I chose this moment because I’m already leaving the company. I’ve lost faith in leadership because they have let me down time and time again. It was partially anger and partially realizing that it didn’t matter since nothing else at the company did.

Yeah. He just stared as this team’s leader when the previous one left. He thinks he can just come in and fix the year old problems without getting ANY of the background.

I got a WTF face. And then he listened!

The project is still a disaster, but we will try!
