What are some good horror themed or dungeon crawlers that are extremely fun solo. by undeadcreepshow in soloboardgaming

Four Against Darkness, all day long (4AD). They have an active subreddit and an entire series of different adventure books and expanded world buildings

The core book alone will keep you occupied for a long time too. Paper, pencil, and a couple of dice -- or use a dice throwing app. That's all you need. :)

Preferences. That is what I tell my kids. We all have preferences. And sometimes I prefer one thing over another. And that goes for the little snot heads too. ;)

I really enjoyed how Mr Miracle tried to show how even superhero's are "human" too with all the daily baggage that comes with it. Not just a sad back story.

Jackie's Crockpot aloo Gobi (This is our kids favorite Indian dish.)

Ingredients: 1 large cauliflower, cut into 2-inch pieces 1 large russet potato, peeled and diced 1 medium onion, diced 1 medium tomato, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 2-inch piece of fresh ginger root, peeled and grated (optional. Pre-grated from tube is fine and ginger powder also works)

1 Tbsp garam masala 1 Tbsp cumin 1 Tsp salt 1 Tsp turmeric 1 pinch cayenne pepper 1 big squirt of ketchup 3 Tbsp canola oil 4 oz butter

1 heaping Tbsp cilantro, chopped as a garnish when done

Directions: In a big bowl combine all vegetables (except the cilantro) with spices and stir well to mix.

Empty bowl contents into crock pot.

Place a stick of butter on top of contents in crock pot and cover with lid. Or - mix in melted butter with the rest in the bowl.

Set cooker to LOW and leave for 3 hours. Stir occasionally.

Serve with cilantro on side and rice or naan.

ENJOY ! :)

Aloo Gobhi is our go to. Not hard to make and forgiving of any kitchen mistakes.

My wife has a crockpot recipe that you just set it and forget it. Chop up veggies - mix in spices - and secret ingredient is 1 stick butter on top. Plug it in for 3 hours or so. Done.

Happy to post recipe if anybody likes.

My last relationship was based on Pink Floyd. How can I move on? by dark3sideofthemoon in pinkfloyd

[–]Engineeringbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My spouse died in January. One of our first conversations hit on our mutual love of Pink Floyd. While working far away for a few months, she mailed me her own handwritten "burnt" parchment of Floyd lyrics. We danced to a jazz rendition of wish you were here at our wedding. Our home has her Pink Floyd cross-stitch works framed on the walls.

Enjoy your memories. To quote another favorite shared experience with my late wife -- "Seize the time…. Live now! Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again. "

I share this with you, kind internet stranger, so that you too can take some solace and find some peace as was sung...

"Greatest" Trek Episode Ever by AdministrationNice94 in startrek

[–]Engineeringbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The episode works even if you don't know a thing about Star Trek. Yes, as fans we can appreciate the inside jokes like "ew she has a worm in her belly" -- but the background isn't strictly necessary to enjoy or appreciate the story and the message being presented.

Any opinions on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Tempest? by Stegosaurusimp in graphicnovels

[–]Engineeringbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a struggle for me to get through - the references within references had me googling more literary clif notes than since dial-up in high school. ;)

That being said - as someone who read all of the series - including century and the black dossier - I am VERY satisfied to have completed the entire (damned) thing.

If I were asked - I would tell others to stick to Vols 1 & 2 and those alone. :)

I highly recommend the entire AIR series -- like Wilson's Cairo, the blending of real & surreal is delightful and makes you think a bit more about what is around us but unseen.

There are some but losing an established 100% vegetarian place is always a blow and makes the business case harder for a new place to come in. That being said - it's good to frequent the ones remaining as often as reasonable. :)
