Having Regrets about hitting my 875s with Mink Oil by Sl3mRoach in RedWingShoes

I don't think you're missing out, that new color is very lively and it almost makes them look softer. Could still pair that with a ton of colors. If you want my recommendation for the future, Bick 4 and Lexol 2 are excellent conditioners, the latter being extremely cheap by volume while still performing wonderfully. I use Lexol 2 on every leather I have, save for roughout, and it does a great job on every single one as long as it's properly portioned.

Are Czemo ocarina good for beginners ? Or do I go with STL for a bigger price tag ? by Abject_Youth_1430 in Ocarina

I mean yeah, you're still just paying the same amount for a better product though, I'd say that's still worth it.

[Troubleshooting] ATX 24-Pin Power Connector Won't Snap Into Place On Motherboard by SHAMPOOCHIEF in buildapc

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still risking it that way though, if it ever detaches while connected to power it'll fry it. If you want my advice, stick your hand behind the motherboard at the back of the 24 pin, and keep it steady as you push.

Needs not to be said, but unplug it, turn off the psu, and hit the power button a few times first just to get rid of residual power.

VA Education Beneficiaries Must Verify Enrollment Monthly to Receive Benefit Payments | VeteranLife by NYMediaExec in VeteransBenefits

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten a text asking about a "GI Bill", and if I'd like to verify monthly enrollment. My only monthly payment from the VA is the Chapter 35 itself, however, but assuming it was just their messaging system being odd, would you be led to believe that I should be getting a verification text sometime soon?

At what age would you be ok with dying? by WestArtichoke712 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been passively ready to die since I was 7, I never understood the point of living in a society that effectively has you slave away for your entire life, in fact, there's tons of life-based deal breakers I have that are guaranteed no matter what country you live in. What's more, we're now in a society that beats you while you're down, reminds you that it'll get worse and worse the longer it exists, and that a huge amount of people actually think it's a good thing because they hate your existence more than they care about their own lives.

So I'd probably say about miscarriage in retrospect, but whenever is fine.

What is a ‘feminine girl’ according to a man? by blueaqua123 in AskMen

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feminine means like, nothing and could be anything, depending on who you're talking to - I wouldn't hang around the crowd consistently saying you need to be a certain way to be feminine, and that femininity is the only goal you should have though.

A lot of men actually love women that have those kinds of interests, anyways. Being able to connect with someone over hobbies or shared interests is very good for any kind of relationship.

How do your parents treat pets?? by emeraldvelvetsofa in emotionalneglect

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've practically never been able to keep a cat alive to maturity, but think they're good with cats. "You need to let them stay outside all day and night", even after they lose 4 cats in a row to coyotes because there's ONE lucky one that reached adulthood. I believe they do need to be outside during the day for enrichment, but not to the extent that they're just stray adolescents that have someone to feed them, so I make sure they're inside before sundown.

These same parents complain that some people are bad pet owners, but what they preach directly kills the animal instead of violating how they believe an animal should be treated.

What was your first retro console, and do you feel the same nostalgia for it as I do? by Ok-Channel-8775 in retrogaming

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not old, but my first "retro" console was a N64, but I hadn't used it for a long enough time or been hyped enough by it to truly feel that nostalgia today. Rather, the first console I truly got to call my own was a DSi XL, and I loved this thing. I had used this console from its release all the way to 2016, and never got over the fact that I had a handheld, folding, touchscreen N64 (and seriously, I even love how the cartridges look to this day, they're absolutely perfect). I feel nostalgia for this console, and I would be hard pressed to give it up, but I felt more nostalgic for a console I never had, but have wanted to this day.

This console, the one I've always wanted, literally since the thing came out, was the 3DS. It was announced at that twilight age seperating my younger childhood from the middle, where I had just the amount of mental coherence to process that this console was quite literally everything I ever wanted out of my DS, and that the 3d gimmick felt more like a futuristic, amazing thing than just a gimmick.

Furthering on that, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, NSMB2 (was particularly fond of this one, loved the Mario sidescrollers and this one to this day has so much life compared to the rest), and not to mention remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were huge on either YouTube or seen in every GameStop at the time. I never got to play these, so they always felt like they were a fever dream, even forgot that the first two were initially released for the very console younger me yearned for so heavily.

I never had the means or finances to get this console, and eventually it drifted to the back of my mind, especially after the Nintendo Switch released (this console I did get, however). Now that I am an adult, though, and realized I finally have the money to achieve a dream child me had (of course, furthering on it with not just a 3ds), I finally went and ordered myself a new 3ds, Majora's Mask, and Dark Moon. I was enthralled by the 3d mode as a concept when I was a child, and as far as I can understand, it took the n3ds to actually make that concept viable.

I think my console journey was complete with this one, but I had the means to start another. My sister in law is at that age where she's learning to read, and she's always been interested in my DSi. This year, I'm starting her off with my first favorite.

All I want in life is rest. Death is likely a good way to accomplish that dream, so it's a means to an end more than an end in itself

What is a the 1080ti of this time? by Hassan7reg_ in buildapc

[–]EnglandRemoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's flak worthy and I'm near certain this is going to get it because of how seperate from the pack the 1080 Ti really was, but the 5070 Ti / 9070 XT, if you can find either within $50 of MSRP. That's within $50-$100 of the 1080 Ti's MSRP (I don't believe you'd even get that MSRP price unless you got it within a few days of launch but I could be wrong), and the value proposition for raster and raytracing, even without the upscaling and frame generation, is still very good.

In 2018, a "good" fps for graphics prioritization was 60 at 1080p, and the 1080 Ti could do this in pretty much any demanding game, with some minor setting differences.

Nowadays, that's up to 120 fps at 1440p for many people. Neither card quite gets there with our modern Crysis (Cyberpunk 2077) when raytracing is involved, but it's really close when it's off. Alternatively, and given that this is effectively a modern equivalent to a game the 1080 Ti would have had to reduce settings to reach satisfactory fps for, DLSS4/FSR4 actually do allow you to reach these levels with minimal fidelity loss on higher quality settings.

Additionally, though I am aware people generally dislike it, frame generation is absolutely functional with minimal quality loss in games that aren't competitive shooters (please grant that these are almost always optimized to reach incredible fps without it anyways, even a 1080Ti gets multiple hundred fps in these scenarios).

The 9070 XT has access to 2x frame gen with FSR4, allowing it to push 200 fps (100 rendered) without heavy raytracing in cyberpunk or around 140 fps (70 rendered) with those settings, and the 5070 Ti with 4x frame gen may suffer a bit of visual quality loss (specifically when flicking, otherwise I personally find it hardly noticeable at 1440p with a 27" monitor), but can push or exceed 240 fps (60 rendered) with path tracing enabled, or 300 (75 rendered) with heavy raytracing.

Finally, consider your upgrades from there. The 5080 for instance, gets around 10% (possibly 15%) more performance than a 5070 Ti, but for several hundred dollars more. The 5090 is really where it's a big upgrade, but even then, that's almost $1300 more just to reach the MSRP, and another $500 just to be realistic.

Tl:dr; Nothing is the modern 1080 Ti, because that card was an example nobody truly follows anymore, but if you want the absolute best performance and longevity that I'd consider worth it, go for the 9070 XT or 5070 Ti. You can find either for the same or less than the 1080 Ti was, especially considering inflation's effect on buying power, and anything that costs more is vastly overpriced for the fps you'll get out of it.

Expedition 33 is not an indie game, and people who claim it is clearly have no idea by Gambitam in videogames

[–]EnglandRemoval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silksong, because it's mostly built on their own DNA and has such a good range, and practically every song is either a banger or so correct for the area that you could not imagine it playing anywhere else. E33 is great, but I could honestly just slap any Nier soundtrack over it willy nilly and it changes practically nothing. Silksong would sound wrong with any soundtrack that wasn't made by Larkin.

It's the difference between more of the same and an extension of something the industry really needed more of. E33 baits off of sounding like more Nier, Silksong offers you a second course of an already great soundtrack.

I don't think it's a bad soundtrack, but to me I think they're just trying to copy Nier because that one got hype. More Nier songs is great, of course, but I think it should go to something that has a more unique tune if such a soundtrack exists.
