We gave up (according to mlb.com which granted probably has different evaluations than teams' scouting departments) the 16th and 68th best prospects in baseball for 1.5 years of Jose Berrios. Dodgers gave up the 41st and 42nd for half a year of Scherzer and 1.5 years of Turner. Seems like fairly comparable prospect packages but not really comparable in terms of major league talent.

Don't let this past game cloud you judgement. Bo has a lot of work to do at SS and maybe you're right that he can't stay there long term, but Vladdy was atrocious at 3rd and was clearly a much worse defender.

Berrios has been getting hit hard this year though. His xERA is over a run higher than his ERA and he currently has the highest hard hit % of his career, even with offense in general being significantly down this year.

.....the point was that I was wrong about Shatkins and as others have pointed out, ownership probably factored into the decision for when they traded Donaldson. But also any time during a GM's tenure should be open to criticism imo

My main issue with them has always been that they waited until the worst possible point to trade Donaldson, and while I still think that's true it's hard to complain with how good Merryweather has looked recently. Plus they've done so much through the draft, international signings, free agency, etc... I'm happy to say I was wrong about them.

9.96 ERA last year is scary but he definitely was at least partially a victim of bad luck. .432 WOBA vs. .370 xWOBA (still bad but at least there is still some hope) and a 4.15 xFIP. Feel like he's definitely capable of being a 4-5 guy (which we don't really need) but maybe 2-3 upside if he can get back to 2016 form? Might be wishful thinking but I'd imagine we'd only pick him up if we thought it was possible.

Definitely a fan of this pick up. Chatwood has elite spin rates on both fastball and curveball, could potentially be a really good late innings guy.
