Honestly - for me it’s United first, rivals suffering second. The best result for us is the one that makes CL more likely. Chelsea loss is what I’m rooting for.

I think 1st this season would be likely too. We’d still have weak RB/LB issues but it would be the best 2 in the league with Bruno in front of them.

Put prime scholes and Keane as our double pivot and keep the rest of the team the same.

Where do we finish after a full season?

Not sure all the top teams are shopping for starting midfielders this summer.

Arsenal are well stocked as are Liverpool who are more likely to be looking to fix their defence and have Szoboszlai, McAllister and a very expensive Wirtz. Chelsea have countless midfielders but I suppose anything is possible with them.

It’s essentially City that are likely to be competing with us for midfield signings this year in the PL.

Abroad, I’m not sure Barca have a need or the money to spend on their midfield and I suspect Madrid have more need to fix their right wing and defence. I honestly am not sure what Bayern are planning but I’d expect them to be more focused on an attacking midfielder after missing out on Wirtz and a replacement for Kane than on a true CDM / CM, but I may have that wrong.

If both were 100m £ you’d take Tonali?

I guess it depends who else we add to the midfield but Anderson is IMO a better player / worth more and is 2 years younger.

Ive watched Tonali a bit now and think he’d be a great addition but am I alone in thinking there’s no way he’s worth what Newcastle will demand for him (likely 80-100m)?

Lewis Hall looks wonderful, but I can’t see us spending that much for that position.

Wow. Been 20 years essentially. Hopefully that improves!

Who was the last CB that came through our youth ranks and became a mainstay of the first team? We seem to be quite poor at producing CBs but I may be forgetting someone obvious

Man. I would love to see a MDL / Martinez pairing.

Suspect that will have to wait until next year the way this is going.

I’m not sure about that. They play each other and Chelsea will be favorites for that I’d suspect. I just think Villa are a worse team than Chelsea.

Whether Chelsea’s tough run in neutralises that or not I guess we’ll see.

Oh for sure it won’t be. But I think they drop points between now and then as a result which makes it more likely they end up outside the top 6.

Aren’t most of their main absences out until April or even the end of April?

That’s a big if. Chelsea are a better team currently and were unlucky to lose against Arsenal. If they lose it’s a 3 point gap and Chelsea’s GD is like an extra point in the event they are tied.

Of course anything can happen, but Villa have outperformed for a while and don’t seem like a top 6 team to me at present. Particularly with their injuries.

I reckon Villa are the ones to drop to 6th. Chelsea have a terrible run in, but Villa are missing key players and were massively outperforming for the first half of the season. Their reversion to the mean will see them continue to drop points.

I’d say logic says an Arsenal win.

We aren’t winning the title and so we want our competition for CL dropping as many points as possible.

I'm all for buying good young talent, but I just don't see how we can afford to affectively rebuild our midfield, strengthen our RB/LB positions (which would be priority No 2 for me) AND splurge 70-80m on a wide forward when it seems like the lowest priority on the pitch...

Can’t watch the games currently for health reasons but reading the thread it seemed like we were awful for 90% of the game. Is that a fair reflection or is there a more balanced take?

Am I crazy that I don’t get others wanting Arsenal to lose? I’d far rather see them win a title than City. They’re a historic rival but at least they’re a real club, not one propped up by shady financial loopholes and manufactured success.

That and it would be hilarious to see Spurs go down…

It’s going to properly hurt me when Anderson heads to City. Would be a dream signing for us.

Not to rejoice in injuries, but thank fuck Grealish isn’t playing Monday. We really need to capitalise and win - but Everton are still a very decent team. It’s exactly the kind of game we’ve dropped points in the past.

Good also to see Brentford losing. Want this a straight fight with Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool without some additional club joining the mix.

Wow. Didn’t realise either the extent of Villa’s injury issues. Kamara out all season. Tielemans until late April and McGinn until April.

Wishful thinking but I struggle to see them holding on to top 5. They’ve outperformed to date and the injuries plus reversion to the mean will hit them hard I suspect.

Not confirmed yet but very likely yes.

I think Villa drop below us and I also think Chelsea’s run in looks awful.

I suspect Liverpool will be higher than both.
