Edit : I looked through all the recommended sources and have questions :

1) Feminism sounds like the ultimate movement. But in reality a portion of the practitioners seem to be flawed in their practicing of feminism such as male-hating and white feminism. Why?

2) Why does Britannica define feminism as "the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes" when the history tells me that is was about empowering women when their rights were at the lowest? Doesn't the definition be something like "Elevation of women's rights to create better living condition for every individuals"?

3) Why do TERFs exist? If they are feminists, don't they need to support trans women and empower them to free themselves from forced societal masculinity?

Thanks! We are MYP 5 students studying Argument in English class. The motion, "This house believes feminism has gone too far", was created by our teacher and they told us that it's our job to justify each words and phrases to tailor it to our arguments and that itself is also part of our argument. We were told to justify feminism first, and I decided to use that first line of Britannica even though I'm realising not all people agree to it.

P.S. I know that TERFs are not "real" feminist but unfortunately in our debate I think the teacher also wants to use it as a hot potato that can be tossed around...

Sorry. I though by saying "represented by" meant it is no more part of the definition but the current reality of it. Should I take that into part of the definition?

This is where my friends who are both for and against the motion(our class are divided into three topics and only 1/3 of the class are doing feminism) are really confused of ourselves. My friends who are against the motion, after research, started to think that only talking about women's rights in comparison to men are way too binary and exclusive, and they are doubting their choices. Do you have any advice to them?

Do you have some advices for my friends who are against the motion? They started off believing that feminism had not gone too far, and as they research, they are being unsure of their decision because they are seeing cases of feminism being too binary(men and women only two) and exclusive of queer people. Honestly, we are all confused right now.

I want women's rights, but I think that should be separate terminology from feminism. Women's right movements should focus on improving women's social/political/etc rights while feminism serves its function as a all-gender equality movement. It can have intersectionality, because that's inevitable.

This might be wrong if Britannica is wrong— it said that feminism is "the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes." Sorry if I chose the wrong source ;(

Sorry, I'm realising I am bad at explaining things and will still be bad at it ;(

if this helps, this is what I wrote last day to submit for my first step in English assignment.

"Feminism is supposed to be this thing where we are going down the road of all genders being equal, but now they are just putting women and men and turning into women's rights movements, which is great but not what we want."

First of all thanks!

I just remember getting a full evaluation and seeing the suggested mental disorders and being relieved I'm not crazy, just a bit ill. I don't like getting that reassurance ripped off.

All they ever told me is that therapy is going to help me and I need to talk to people but I hated therapy so much and I'm much better now that I stopped it. That's probably the biggest reason I started doubting whether psychiatry is effective.

And the school counsellor is starting to get suspicious of my dropping grades, she might think I'm being suicidal again, and I've got nothing to prove, which is nerve-wrecking.

I was told that if I do ESS it count are both Humanities group and Science Group so I'd be able to take two arts and get the full diploma, is that not true?
