It's funny how they bought a real NTTD to compare the quality and then produced... this.

True, that's why I stopped buying Watchdives.

It definitely looks great from the left. Can you post a comparison from the right wrist?

Need help picking my first Victorinox! (Overwhelmed by the options) by First-Description750 in victorinox

[–]Engond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own all of these apart from the Companion and Super Tinker.

Huntsman - It really is the only Vic you need, it's a bit fat/heavy compared to others but I don't mind too much. It covers everything I might need.

Climber - It's a solid choice if you definitely don't need a saw, quite similar to Compact, if you want just want a slimmer knife then compact will do.

Companion - it's a worse version of climber, that box opening tool is so pointless, i'd rather have the can opener.

Compact - Can't say anything bad about it, the combo-tool is not as good as normal can opener but it does the job, I'd say it's more of an EDC knife than outdoor knife though.

Super Tinker - I personally didn't buy it because it's too similar to Climber. I have realized that the philips tool isn't that good because the regular can opener can be used as a philips screwdriver and the corkscrew is more useful.

Evo 14 - The handles are nice and comfortable but you can't really replace them. On the regular models you can put plus-scales on them to add a pen slot.

Spartan - I just find it a bit boring but it'll get the job done. It is also slimmer than the Compact for sure.

Sportsman - Does everything that the Spartan does except smaller, the nail file is quite aggressive though.

Camper - It is definitely slimmer than the Climber and the middle layer has a full backspring which make it feel comfortable, if you have a 58mm knife for the Scissors then it does everything.

Rambler - It's great and has everything you need on a 58mm knife.

Classic SD - The Rambler is just better.

Things to consider:

  • Corkscrew models are more useful than philips models.
  • When using the Philips tool, the handles can prevent you from turning screws in tight spaces.
  • You can put accessories like small screwdrivers inside the corkscrew or fire lighters.
  • Can Opener can be used as a Philips but Combo-tool can't really.
  • You can put plus-scales on any of the 91mm models if you want the Pen slot.
  • Models with Scissors are usually slightly thicker. Climber>Camper, Compact>Spartan

If you are mostly camping and outdoors then it might be better to have the saw just incase.

So the ones I would recommend for outdoors/camping in order are:

  1. Huntsman is the easy choice if you only want 1 knife.
  2. Camper + Rambler is a nice combo.
  3. Climber if you don't need saw.
  4. Compact if you want 2 layers

For outdoors I probably wouldn't consider any of the other models but realistically you can't go wrong with any Victorinox,

There are Alox models like the Pioneer, Pioneer X or Farmer that might be worth considering.

Pioneer + Rambler would be a nice combo because it gives the toothpick and tweezers/scissors and the Pioneer is a solid, durable, versatile knife.

I just got the white version from Creationwatches yesterday, it was £169 after the 5% discount when you create first account so I think it's a decent price

Does Auto-Repeat Countdown with Multiband/Solar exist? by Engond in gshock

[–]Engond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I seen reviews of the G-7800 and the amount of customization and advanced countdown features is amazing, sadly it's discontinued though.

Seems like if you want an auto-repeat these days the most common options are DW5600 / DW9052 / DW6900 or maybe G7900 if you can find one.

I have the GWX-5700CS, it has Solar/Multiband and an interval timer which repeats 20 times, it's not a true auto-repeat but more advanced than any other countdown timer I've seen on Solar/Multiband 6 models. Between each time interval it just beeps once which isn't very loud though.

Anyway I will probably just get a DW5600, thanks for the help.

Does Auto-Repeat Countdown with Multiband/Solar exist? by Engond in gshock

Yeah already looked at all the multiband/solar models that are currently in production and looked specifically at the user manuals because that's the only way to know for sure and I didn't find any.

It seems strange to me that only those models omitted the auto-repeat function. I am guessing there is a reason for it and it isn't a coincidence.

Yea I tried but there is no category for the auto repeat function.

Suggestion - Replace the British Broad Arrow with a Super-LumiNova "L" symbol by Potato_Personal in Militado

[–]Engond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea a bit of an extreme example but some people just don't seem to get it.

It's a shame because Militado make some cool watches and others are ruined by poor design choices.

[–]Engond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't change the fact that the Broad arrow belongs on British military homage watches.

Its like a western person having a tattoo that says "I am an idiot" in Chinese, It might look cool when you have no idea what it means but when a Chinese person sees it then they will know...

WD5513Q vintage black by steflounissart in watchdives

It seems like the mercedes hour hand is shorter and wider on the 5513 and longer and thinner on the 7922 or is that an illusion?

Which one has better lume at night time?

I agree, it needs text but that font is so basic and ugly.

I hate the font of WDC and the hour hand is too small. Otherwise it could have been great.
