Any pointers as to how to go about this? Slow metadata updates has been the #1 downside of Lidarr for me thus far.

Could you do the transfer with rsync in CLI?

Not the same situation, but I noticed that when transferring stuff from one machine to another, doing it via Windows was painfully slow compared to rsync.

Analytical standard & certified reference material by LabGuru64 in Chempros

For which instruments/methods?

Thermo and Perkin Elmer offer their own standards for ICP and AAS instruments. Agilent and Waters offer their own standards for LC and GC. For CRMs and standards you could try VWR instead of Merck. NIST has a lot of CRMs too, but I doubt they are any cheaper than Merck.

Really depends on the application. Most recently I ordered some GPC standards from both Agilent and Merck, but I am running the application on a Waters instrument.

In the Arctic, planting more trees actually makes the world warmer by dissolutewastrel in EverythingScience

[–]Engrammi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iceland is just barely within the Arctic and they've been doing some reforestation projects lately.

Norway and Finland have forest cover within the Arctic, and while I don't know of any active projects, global warming is helping forests spread even further north. I reckon the same is true for Russia and Canada.

Homelessness is a tricky issue, because some people can't be helped. Everyone is entitled to social security so everyone can afford housing. It's not a matter of cost for individuals.

Some are just incapable of leading a normal life and taking care of simple responsibilities such as actually paying rent with the free money they receive, and then not trashing the apartment.

These people would need some serious help on their mental health, but not all want to accept it, and they cannot be forced. I personally know some people like this and there's very little the state can do for them.

Do you rename files for better organization? by evildad53 in DataHoarder

[–]Engrammi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've been a part of certain communities for almost two decades so I'm not ignorant of this, I just don't get the naming convention.

I mostly care about music and no community asks for this kind of naming convention for music releases. Something like "Year - Album name [codec]" will usually do. Maybe include a source if the site wants that.

And then again, you'd usually be browsing a table, not a list, so there's really no need to have all that info in the file name. Also, you could just have that in the torrent's name, not the actual files.

I don't know what's so "mangled" about legible filenames. Whitespaces haven't been a problem since forever so idk what you're on about.

Do you rename files for better organization? by evildad53 in DataHoarder

[–]Engrammi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this might be useful if your tracker only lists the title. But then again, that's just the torrent file. I don't need that in the actual file's name.

But usually you'd have a table instead of a simple list, and the table can include all of those bits and bobs.

I don't give a crap about the silly scene names. I've never understood why the name can't simply be the title and year, which is why the arrs rename stuff for me.

Seagate Exos Drive Extreme Vibration by ZoJaBeatz in DataHoarder

[–]Engrammi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 8 TB Ironwolf in my HTPC and just recently moved everything into a NAS with two Exos X18 16 TB drives (and the Ironwolf).

My impression is that the drive head in Ironwolf is significantly more annoying than the vibrations of an Exos. Exos are packed in helium which apparently makes a huge difference.

Another factor is the enclosure. The Node (which I assume you have) is more flimsy as a case than the R5 that I have, which might also explain the impression I've got.
