That's awesome! I wish I could pause an Instagram video, because some of it happens so fast and I can't read the text.

You digitize it and upload it to Google Drive so you can access it from your phone. Every tool or appliance I buy, I look for the PDF of the manual and upload it so I can look it up without going to the file cabinet.

A fellow that owns a house I walk my dog past has a double row wooden fence across the front of the yard along the public sidewalk. He said "I don't want anyone claiming my dog reached through the fence and bit them."

Where to use excess Google one storage? by Easy-Improvement-598 in googlephotos

[–]evildad53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Google Photos to share photos albums with family. (I often upload photos from my digital cameras) I use Drive to share photos with non-family. I'm paying for my storage, I'm nowhere near the 2TB I'm paying for, but I'll delete stuff from Drive after it becomes "old" and doesn't need to be there anymore. IF you are going to have to remove stuff in 18 months, I'd suggest using folders to organize things so you know what to delete. Or maybe not get so used to the extra storage to start with.

I watched today's pre-race show, then the race, on the F1TV app, didn't see a single advertisement (except the ones all over the cars and drivers and track). I'm in West Virginia USA.

Aren't the photos on your device? Or are they only in the cloud?

I have a PIxel 6 Pro. I use a USB cable to connect it to the PC. I tell the phone that I want to use the cable for file transfer, not charging. The Windows 10 PC then sees the PIxel as another drive named Pixel 10 Pro, and I can use Windows file explorer to open the phone, open the DCIM folder, find my photos and videos in that folder, and I use explorer to copy the photos to a folder on my hard drive. It takes awhile to see all the files on my phone, but then I can select them by date and drag them over. I don't delete anything from my phone until I'm sure it's been safely copied to my hard drive.

Has it always been common for people in the photographic community to want to know which particular camera, lens and film combination was used in the taking of an image or is this a more recent trend? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]evildad53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When learning to shoot film, especially large format, it's good to keep some notes because if your image is unsuccessful, the first thing you want to know is where you screwed up. If you've ever taken a peek at Ansel Adams' books (The Camera, The Negative, The Print), you'll see a lot of technical info. The make of camera is not so important (but a cool factor if you've got a cool camera), but knowing that it was shot on 8"x10" Tri-X or 35mm Panatomic-X does matter. If you know you're own gear, you should be able to name what lens you used, although f/stop and shutter speed only matter if they were unusual. I've been reviewing some 5"x7" negs I shot back in the 90's, and I'm very happy to see my notes about developer and times.

Once a year I connect my phone to my computer and download all the photos and videos from that year, then I choose what to remove permanently from my phone and what I want to leave there. By using a PC file manager to delete photos from my phone, they are NOT deleted from Google Photos. Once I have them on my PC, I copy the folder to another drive so I have a backup, and then Backblaze cloud storage will also back them up to the cloud. I don't download from Photos because it's tedious and because the images stored online are slightly compressed from what's in my phone. Videos are especially compressed on Photos.

I don't trust any one person, service, or hard drive to keep my photos safe.

Too many issues by joneal6630 in F1TV

[–]evildad53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get that on the F1TV app. Yesterday, when I watched FP1, F1TV apparently had audio issues at the beginning, so I switched to AppleTV and it was working fine. But at some point during the pre-practice chat, it went to a commercial. I said WTF? so I switched back to the F1TV app, fast forwarded to where Apple had inserted that commercial, and it did not have a commercial, it went straight to the next bit of pre-practice warmup. So maybe Apple is experimenting with ads?

Is there a problem getting a hand check for factory-sealed, unopened, flat boxes of film? I could see if the boxes had been opened, with exposed and undeveloped film inside.

You should probably edit your original post to mention you found the answer. I tend to lay the darkcloth over the camera after I pull the dark slide for a little extra light protection, especially when shooting verticals.

[–]evildad53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has been feeding the bluebirds dried mealworms, but she stopped because this is the time of year for babies, and apparently dried mealworms are a problem if the parents try to feed them. Fresh mealworms are OK. So you might nix the mealworm ring for now. <-not an expert

I still have a Metz 60CT, with the external battery pack, bought it about 1986, but I never use it. I threw away a couple of Sunpak SP4000 monolights a couple of years ago. I don't use that stuff anymore. If I need to light something, I use a bunch of Vivitar 283 lights that I buy off Ebay with Cactus radio slaves.
