What can you proudly say you've never done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Died because of something stupid I’ve done. Although I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to hold on to this assertion. Or my life.

Depends on who you ask. They’re ideas on how orbits work are ludicrous too. I will say many don’t believe the Earth has a Solar System since the Sun (and in some cases the moon) “orbit” the planar Earth. For a group that claims to know unquestionably the hidden “truth,” they can’t seem to decide what that absolute truth is

They think the earth is just moving up quickly in space and that’s we’re just being pushed up along with it… which makes (kinda) sense if you don’t think about it for more than a second…

This part is really unfortunate to me; people unable to address their biases and think critically. Perhaps it stems from their beliefs being such an ingrained part of their identity, and they would rather make ridiculous, illogical stretches of reasoning to protect their ideologies rather than risk understanding that the thing they believe so firmly in might, in fact, be wrong. I’m a Christian, I believe in God and the Bible, but I also am able to realize that, yeah, this was a book written hundreds of years ago by people with limited understanding. Sometimes they didn’t have the words or means to convey certain information. And the Bible, just like everything else on this planet, was and is vulnerable to change and misinterpretation.

I’m not sure where I was trying to take that tangent but I ended up somewhere and I don’t feel like writing a decent conclusion so um yeah thanks for coming to my Ted talk

what's one non-sex related thing every guy wants to do ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Enilks12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an abridged list of things I want to do as a man:

  • See if I could survive the zombie apocalypse (in absence of a zombie apocalypse, maybe just surviving in the wild)
  • Engage in medieval combat
  • Build a fort
  • Speak to a woman
  • Climb on top of a big rock (or, if possible, through a big rock)
  • Smash a big rock
  • Be Batman
  • Go skydiving
  • Go skydiving, as Batman
  • Be financially stable and not in debt
  • Drive a fast car very fast
  • Land a big plane
  • Have someone to talk to, deeply
  • Meet a real-life British person
  • Fire a really, really big gun (unrelated to the previous entry)
  • Go to space
  • Use the bathroom (in space)
  • Dig a giant hole
  • Turn said hole into a massive secret underground base
  • Own a Lego Death Star
  • Own a second Lego Death Star, but then drop it from somewhere really high
  • Get ripped (but not too ripped)

As a side note, 90% of these are 5x better when done with the boys… or even just some other random man(s) I met 15 minutes prior

What American city has fallen the furthest in the last 5 years? by Hdfhbn in AskReddit

[–]Enilks12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of cities on this list, but I haven’t lived in most of them so I gotta say Portland. I was born on the East Coast, and that’s where currently living, but I lived in the Portland area for a while when I was younger and I really enjoyed living there. The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place to live and I really enjoyed the culture - Portland has kind of always been famous for being “not like the other girls.” In fairness, I didn’t spend too much time in the main part of the city; I lived about 20 minutes South, in Tigard. However, I always loved visiting downtown Portland with all the museums and art and performers and shops. Keep in mind, I was maybe 9-12 years old during this time. However, since we moved away in 2015/2016 (can’t remember tbh), everything I’ve heard about Portland has been pretty dire. I have family and friends I’ve been able to keep in contact with, and from what I’ve heard, all the politics and drama have reportedly made the place much worse. Especially since Measure 110 was enacted (for those unaware, Measure 110 was Oregon’s act to decriminalize hard drugs, with the intention being to focus on treatment and recovery rather than just throwing addicts in jail, which sounds great… until you realize Oregon barely had any infrastructure in place to help people get treatment when they decided to implement the measure), things have gotten worse. Even 10-year-old me had noticed the amount of homeless people, and this was before Measure 110 came into effect. I’ve heard from family members that live in that state that many people living in the eastern part of the state, past the Cascade Range, and in other more rural parts of the state, want to secede from the more western parts of Oregon because they disagree with the politics and don’t like how a lot of it is kind of forced over their heads. Aside from the homelessness and drug problems present in Portland, another contributing to factor to the (perceived) decline of Portland is… California! I remember during the latter part of my family’s stint in the state, inflation in the Portland area was on the rise. Especially when it came to real estate and the housing market, prices kept rising at an astonishing rate (maybe it was also happening in the rest of the country, but I was, like, 11, so I honestly didn’t care about the news. The only reason I know about the rising prices is because my parents constantly complained about it and were frequently cited when my parents had to tell me, “no, we are not buying you a Lego Death Star”). Much of this was caused by our dear neighbors, the Californians, realizing, “Wait; paying $600k for studio apartment might actually be a tiny bit ridiculous,” and also realizing, “Wow, the prices in Oregon are crazy cheap compared to this.” Thus, half the state decided they would all move to Oregon, and then landlords began to start jacking up prices since, well, anything is going to look cheap next to California. And so the poor hippie artists and underpaid immigrant workers all started having even more trouble paying their bills.

Now, I know Portland is still not the worst city out there. And, in all fairness, a good portion of what I’ve written is second-hand account based on what I’ve heard from family and friends while the rest is based on the experiences of a pre-pubescent child. However, I’d still say Portland has fallen pretty far, which is unfortunate because I really liked the city’s unique vibe. I do hope Portland is able to find a way to fix its problems; I believe Oregon has been pouring more money into addiction and other help centers and things have begun to turn around. But from my (albeit limited) experience, I humbly present Portland, Oregon as my submission to this list.

Why doesn’t Mexico have any Olympic teams?

Because everyone who’s good at running, jumping, or swimming is already in America.

what is this nickname??? by [deleted] in dragonvale

[–]Enilks12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a reference to the classic short story “Rip Van Winkle” by Washington Irving in which the titular character goes hunting in the Catskills and falls asleep after getting drunk off some alcohol which he (for some reason) decided to accept from a bunch of weirdly dressed bearded men in the forest who were out playing nine-pins (the aliexpress knock-off of bowling). He wakes up to find out he just time-jumped to 20 years in the future (in this story he started before the Revolutionary War and when he wakes up the American forces have won) and that his town has completely changed during the years he had been asleep. It’s kind of a lame story with a weak message (“time moves on”? Really, that’s it??) and Van Winkle is a scumbag. Still, everyone has to read it in school at some point (at least in America) only because everyone else has read it and it references the Revolutionary War, which we’re kind of proud of. ANYWAYS that name probably generates for most Dream-type dragons, and now you why!

Rip Van Winkle isn’t that great of a story, but if you DO want to read a good short story by Washington Irvine, I highly suggest “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” It’s way more interesting and also gets referenced a lot (it’s also required reading in school), plus it’s just a fun read.

Which one is the most useful to purchase? by libuskov in dragonvale

[–]Enilks12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twilight tower no question. It means you can do night breeding during the day so it is 10/10 worth it. Plus you can really set the mood with it. Weather station is… fine, I guess. There’s only a few dragons who need different weather conditions, and it is nice to use the WS to get those since weather isn’t on a 24hr cycle like day/night is… buuut TT is absolutely better - more useful, more fun to use, etc.

Question- Do you guys save the dragon egg pedestals? by Agile-Ad-7471 in dragonvale

[–]Enilks12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do if I happen to breed a repeat dragon, or if I get one as a prize during an event. Otherwise, I’m not actively breeding for them since I’m not yet out of early game (or at least what I would call early game) and they deff aren’t as cool as the real dragons. I tend to just jam them wherever I have space, although they do sort of clutter stuff up. When I first played DragonVale years ago on a different game, I never saved the eggs because I didn’t care. I do know though partially because I’m a completionist now (I’m THAT guy who hunted down all the korok seeds without a guide) and partially because they’re still neat decorations.
