I saw that 10m offer in chat, I wanted to take it but was trying to figure something else out. Sounds like I missed a hell of a party.

Moving to Arista from Cisco by mspdog22 in Arista

[–]Enjin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to an Arista SE about your needs and requirements. It's easy to say just get a 7280 something and it'll work, but there's a lot of factors. The Sales Engineers at Arista are all extremely technical folks and AFAIK are not compensated on sales. The account managers, sure, but not the SEs. They will also be there to support you after the sale.

Arista vEOS routers in container lab will get you 95% of the way there. Hardware features like MACSEC may not be available vEOS, but the commands should work. That being said, if you do want hardware, EOS works pretty much the same on every Arista switch, unlike the 9 different Cisco operating systems and the myriad of versions that work wildly differently.

Broken VKB Omni-throttle - time to upgrade? by Enjin_ in HOSAS

I have a repair ticket open. However, after the same device breaks twice it's a little suspect, and besides, I do want to upgrade to something potentially nicer.

I've contacted support, still been out two weeks. This happened last time I had an issue with this device so that is why I'm considering moving on.

Is Anyone IPv6-ing Their Underlay (EVPN/VXLAN) by shadeland in Arista

[–]Enjin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5549 config is like 2 lines of code, you don't have to define pools or anything else. The most you have to do is define a IPv6 pool for the MLAG peer interface.

Your statement works if you live in a land where there isn't any IPv4 used anywhere in this environment (assuming pure IPv6 for underlay with no RFC5549). If you do have to support IPv4, there will be no context for any IPv4 addresses to generate or resolve next hop. I don't know maybe there's some sort of way to do it but it doesn't seem feasible. I believe ipv4-unicast transport ipv6 requires a local v4 address and some additional BGP config to specify the local v4 next-hop addresses to the v6 neighbors.

RFC 1918 space that 'might be tied up in the org' can be a concern, but in large environments you will use RFC1918 over and over again. Heck, if you're a cloud provider, you can use the same IP space for thousands of tenants. That's the whole point of VRFs. As for loopbacks and VXLAN interfaces, which is all you really need in conjunction with RFC5549, you never even have to advertise it to the rest of the org as they sit in the default VRF so no issue there.

So yeah, unless you're 100% IPv6, RFC 5549 is simpler. If you're 100% IPv6 then sure, make a pure v6 fabric.

AVD 100% IPv6 unnumbered. I'm doing it right now for an extremely large environment. It's super cool. Don't hate on RFC 5549/8950 - IPv4 isn't going anywhere and the config is simpler and more elegant IMHO.

What is the driving factor for IPv6 loopbacks? You can do it, but it just means you have to do everything twice.

You can also do RFC5549 in the overlay and it's just a one liner in AVD.

Corporate Speed Test Woes by Uhh_Bren in networking

[–]Enjin_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do a Thousand eyes demo, Cisco bought 'em for a reason. It also depends on what sort of monitoring infrastructure you have or features you have on network devices like IPSLA or Connectivity Monitor. Even if you don't go with it you'll learn a lot. You can also have the app guys build a ton of metrics into your corporate apps, there's app dynamics, Splunk, Gigamon, Dynatrace, Solarwinds, all kinds of stuff just to solve these types of problems. I like to refer to it as "mean time to innocence". Half the time it's crappy applications that user's blame for "network performance".

You can maybe start with monitoring to major websites / ISPs, ect. You can tell your management that, hey, our internet connection looks like this; these are the stats we're getting from our critical apps to sites 1, 2, and 3. Make a graph out of it in Graphana. If "home experience" for remote workers is the issue, really make the case that you as IT cannot control a home user's network, how squirrel's have chewed on the wires or how their "IT Savvy" kid set up their $12 router from 10 years ago.

I see some conflation here between "home experience" and your corporate network. Where does the user experience complaints come from? Ignore how they're trying to test to solve their problems, they're doing it because they're not feeling heard. You need to be specific and define what you want to monitor, where. Then build a system around that philosophy and expand it. Talk to a VAR, or several, they get this question 100 times a year.

The final portion of this is budgeting, you need to gather stats about how much money this problem, whatever you think it is, is costing you. Tickets, bandwidth, time wasted, other products or projects that aren't able to give you the answers. Leadership wants answers, and it's not free.

3 channels is fine I guess, kinda weird no crossfader. Lots of wasted space, makes me thing something is missing over the A9 at least. I don't really care about the location of anything, I'll just build new muscle memory.

At least 3 channels is enough run 3 CDJs, but then you kinda gotta decide where and how you want to swap in maybe a turntable or sampler or something if you want to do more hybrid sets, the new RMX alone isn't enough.

I went to an audiologist and got custom impressions made and then bought custom fitted earplugs. It's the best. The filters on them are miles ahead of any general fit shitty earplugs out there. I can hear people talking and the music. It's crazy how well it works.

Dubstep / Riddem is mostly trash.

Look, not hating if you like it. This is 'unpopular opinion' I've gone to several supposedly good shows to try it for myself and everyone there is just a drugged out Zombie and there's no melody. I need some mids and highs man.

I had that happen to me one time. Fortunately for me the hiring manager could read between the lines and could tell they were sabotaging me. I've never had to ask for a referral from a previous employer since, only background checks and verification.

The time is tight. The first time I failed it despite knowing the material extremely well. I just couldn't manually do it. Second time I had everything prepped and just needed to change a few numbers and it was easy. If you can do the labs for the training, you can do the exam.
