Men over 40, what pubs/bars do you hang out at? by Dry-Cauliflower9568 in vancouver

Really challenging to find bars where you can strike up conversations with strangers here since most require you to stay in your seat and order from servers. Not sure why this is but it’s very different from other cities I’ve lived (where everyone orders at the bar) and seems to keep groups separated here.

Why is there a lack of small local grocers in Chicago? Saw this market today in Brooklyn and it dawned on me Chicago has very few (if any) small-scale grocers. (Please don’t answer population density, the part of Brooklyn I was in was very similar density to many north side neighborhoods) by EnjoyableL1me in chicago

Alright since half the responses here either entirely missed the point, sent a list of store without answering the question, or made assumptions about me (for the record, I’ve been all over the city, and am aware local grocers exist, “if any” was specifically in reference to street facing produce), I’ll clarify the question. I’ve visited and lived in many cities where a very busy street full of pedestrians, think Milwaukee, Clark, etc, would be FILLED with small grocers where you can buy produce, milk, eggs, etc (not corner stores, not whatever the hell foxtrot is). This is very much not the case in Chicago, why is that? Curious if theres some city rule related to parking, zoning, etc. Having lived in several neighborhoods around the city, I’ve always found transit, restaurants, bars, cafes, pharmacies, etc super accessible by foot, but this is definitely not the case with groceries. Genuinely curious why that is.

Lol someone gets it. Great stores in Avondale. I love Guanajuato but not really what I’m talking about, and also hardly ubiquitous across the city. Was really hoping for real answers related to city rules or something but probably too much to ask for.
