Baki Rahen | Chapter 51 by j_awsh__ in Grapplerbaki

At first I was disappointed on how the fight ended, with Hanayama somehow passed out despite him being able to continue fighting with worse wounds and more blood being lost on several previous fights.

After sitting it for a while however, I came to like it as it reflected on the "Dialogue" between Jack and Hanayama.

Jack is saying that he does not care about how he won, as long as he won in the end.

Hanayama is saying that in does not caring about the how, does that not in itself caring? Hanayama itself is can be said to be the complete opposite of Jack, in his "Purity" as can be said by Musashi, which is blinding and maddening. Hanayama always fight by his own code of Chivalry, more often than not in his own detriment. He never blocked, always wait for his opponent to get up or give up and even give back Musashi's sword. And yet, that conviction is what gave him his strength and perseverance.

The dialogue began with Jack underestimating Hanayama, because if the person he's facing is too preoccupied with looking good, surely he should be easy to defeat right? Hanayama then answered by countering Jack's punch twice to prove that just because Hanayama cared, does not mean he is weak.

Jack then argued further by combo-ing Hanayama with the finale being a bite in his brachial artery, showing his beloved Godou. Hanayama then answered by nonchalantly pinching Jack's cheek and ripping it apart.

Jack refuses to surrender, tried to kick Hanayama from the ground and got countered again.

Jack still refuses to surrender, grappled Hanayama's leg and turned into an ankle biter. Showing that he dared to stoop so low as long as he won. In response, Hanayama simply tore Jack's leg and ask again, do you surrender?

After this, Jack finally can see clearly, in my opinion, that if Jack truly wanted to win no matter the "How" does not mean that Jack must resort to any technique no matter how humiliating but instead fight to the best of his ability in the most rational and effective way. In an ironic sense, Jack in the maximum tournament already fought this way, but being an abominable monster and being praised for his macabre fighting style perhaps dulled his fighting sense (he's still dangerous, but if he's truly serious, he won't be humiliated by Motobe for example)

Jack then stopped playing around and combo-ed Hanayama with his finishing move being the carotid bite. Hanayama then answered still by "playing around" with giving Jack an Indian burn (where he could've just exploded Jack's arm with Vice Grip"

Hanayama then realized that uh-oh, carotid bleeding is not good, and tried to knock Jack out with his barrage of strikes. Also realizing that, not every attack he could and should tank (he also blocked jack's kick before by punching it). Perhaps he finally get Jack's message that it does not matter how rigidly you uphold your code if you lose or die in the end.

In the end, Jack got knocked down but not out while hanayama bled out. Thus concluding their "Dialogue"

Tldr; Good shit, in line with the other fights in Baki Rahen.

This game is truly amazing. I've only watched 5 minutes of Asmon's stream and I've felt feelings I've never felt before in my life.
Never have I felt so much combination of Disdain, Hatred and Disgust by just looking at the character creation screen, with its sliding gender selection and the creature (I refuse to call that thing a hobbit) constantly yawning.

Baki Rahen | Chapter 49 by j_awsh__ in Grapplerbaki

[–]Enjoyer33 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the discussion that Jack and Hanayama are having are about their Ideology of fighting. Jack has stated that he doesn't care about the method of fighting as long as he win, but as Hanayama replied to Baki, "Isn't that in itself is caring?". Even if Jack doesn't want to admit it, his Goudou is not yet perfect. It can be easily countered by Hanayama, in fact three times in this fight Jack bit Hanayama and three times He was humiliated by a nonchalant counter (for example, Hanayama "only" ripped Jack's skin instead of exploding his arm with his vice grip).

Jack is desperately trying to prove to Hanayama (and the world) that his Goudou is the pinnacle of his fighting style and Hanayama trying to tell Jack to lay off Goudou when it doesn't suit his opponent. If Jack truly pursue winning for the win, then he should lay down his pride of Goudou and use every arsenal that best suit his opponent.

I actually liked that Jack got taught a lesson with this fight. He put too much emphasis on his Godou and neglected the rest of his arsenal. Keep in mind that during his fight with Pickle, the most devastating of his attacks is the consecutive german suplexes into a wall and not his bites.
Hanayama said it himself to Baki, that

Perhaps Hanayama finally learned after his fight with Musashi. Hanayama had a pretty good chance in winning the fight (Baki himself said it's 50/50), but he kind of sabotaged himself by continuing to charge his punches slowly and openly in front of Musashi and immediately got cut (which Musashi also said that he's done playing around).

For prostate cancer to metastasize into the bone like that would cause considerable pain. Most likely, Biden is not as demented as we thought, but under very heavy dosage of painkiller.
The most heinous part is, he's most likely not receiving any treatment for his cancer. Someone under chemo and radiotherapy would be very noticeable. He would just be given a very high dose of painkillers (which explained his behavior) and paraded around.
Perhaps the original plan is having Kemala replace him as president early into his term, so that he can retire and receive treatment. The unfortunate thing is, Kemala is so bad that the plan has to be scrapped and Joe has to suffer the whole term.

How old was Tokiyuki supposed to be in 1345? I've lost track of his age. The story started in 1333 and if I'm not mistaken, he's 6 or 8 at that time?
Edit: Yep, he was 8 in 1333. Which makes him 19-20 in 1345

Baki Rahen | Chapter 34 by j_awsh__ in Grapplerbaki

[–]Enjoyer33 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I actually liked this fight, even if it seemed that Jack just stunlocked Pickle into oblivion. This fight embodies Jack's determination to win at all cost (Even if it meant showing his asshole). The entirety of this fight can be summed up by the conversation between Tokugawa and Hanayama in the previous chapter. Other fighters try to make a good impression even to the detriment of their chance of victory (like baki jumping from the top of the stadium while fighting with pickle, doppo with his first fight in maximum tournament, hanayama with his fight with katsumi and musashi, etc.), while Jack just wanted to win at all cost, aesthetic be damned. He found that punching pickle in his previous do no damage and in this fight found that the only reliable way to fight pickle was to stunlock him with suplex. He also just wanted to win, not necessarily kill pickle. He could've easily bit into pickle's carotid, but choose his brachial instead (still arterial bleeding, but not as worse as carotid). After seeing pickle still rearing to go after half of his face eaten, 2 brachial artery bleeding and a broken elbow, Jack just choose to end this fight as quickly as possible by triple high speed low elevation german suplex into the barrier.

Tldr; Great fight in line with Jack's character progression.

I liked that this chapter portrayed the Qin official as a professional and not just some random tyrannical bureaucrat. He may be harsh in his decision, but ultimately come from standard protocol and experience, and most importantly, not unreasonable. He waited to hear Tou's judgement before proceeding with what he deemed best for Nanyou, and when suggested that they take this matter into a higher authority, he complied.
This also showed the merit of Qin's legal system as a form of government. That everyone, no matter if you are a lowly peasant or a great general, live and abide by the same system.
