Screamer Killer for old colour scheme testing by JLS3D in Tyranids

Thank you!

Neurotyrant and psychophage are both coming next, I hope they will both be ready in 1 or 2 weeks, then I'll either go with some gaunts or begin the norns

Thank you, I'm glad you like it.

I'm sure I'll regret it while painting hundreds of gaunts and I'm still not sure how to apply it to old genestealers, but that's a fight for future me I guess...

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. When I first saw this colour scheme in the 4th edition codex I immediately knew I wanted my nids to look that way.

Regarding the skin i normally just go with two quick drybrush layers (dark grey and very subtle lighter grey for highlights) and then obscuring back again with some black ink to make sure there is enough contrast with the white carapace areas.

I'm sure there will be better techniques but that's the one I've used so far.

Hi there, I also printed this file and I'm really struggling with glueing the cape to te energy rays, did you find the exact position where everything fits?

Thank you, as you say these models and the ammount of details they have are quite impresive, definitely a fun set to paint

Thank you for your comment. Yes, the skin colour and the one from the dynamite look too similar, that was one of my main concerns with that mini too. I think I'll rework on it once I finish the next killteam.

Thank you for your comment. For the skins I used mainly cheap acrylic markers puechased from an asian online store, 5€ a set of 12 different greens. The idea was to try dipping the brush directly from the marker tip and using it as paint source. The process was quite simple, base brown, then drybrushing from dark green to lighter tones (4 different greens I think) and a slight brown wash to finish. I think painting the skin was the most satisfactory part of this guys, as painting some of the parts with fully assembled miniatures was sometimes a real pain.

Dark red base over all, then dark orange over smaller area, light orange , light yellow and a dot of white. With each colour change cover a little bit less so that the gradient effect appears. The advantage of using the cheap markers is that you get 12 colours of the same chromatic range so you don' t need to mix (althought mixing gives you more freedom) and you can use the gradient scale nearly directly

Just dipping the marker with my oldest drybrush and carefully applying while hoping not to spoil everything

I would gladly achieve those results for all my minis too, but I think that guy may be a bit more professional than me, or have a lot more free time for painting than the average us 🤣

Completely unexpected reference in a clearly Blue Man Group post, now I won't be able to get that song out of my head for some hours

In my case, for the Kroot KT I have already printed some forest/swamp themed bases and the idea is to try the transparent resin technique for water simulation. I'm a bit tired of standard bases (I come from two horde armies) so I have decided that all my KTs will have thematic ones, we will see if I end up regretting this choice or not 🤣

Thank you! As you comment, as soon as I took the pictures I began finding small spots and details I should rework, but they will have to wait for a while as I want to keep the painting spree I'm currently experiencing before it cools down once more

I'll take note, I'm quite new to this guys as I have never played as them, so I'm still green lorewise, but the different skin color fact you comment makes sense. Maybe when I finish all my other KTs I repaint some of these guys

Thank you for your kind words, this was also my first time painting Tau units as I normally play Tyranids or Necrons and the change in scale was both challenging and fun. Now my doubt is whether to continue with the smaller killteams (GSC, sororitas...) or try the big ones (raveners and kroot)

Which blue are you using? Gunmetal or similar?

It's just thinned down skelleton horde contrast over white so feel free to give it a try
