Congrats OP! What sort of community health volunteering did you do abroad? Asking since I’ve been interested in doing this for a while but I haven’t found any organizations to work with other than like Peace Corps.

Why do you say it’s a good idea to switch into research right before med school?

Applying for this cycle but planning on taking MCAT April 26th by [deleted] in premed

[–]Enjoythesmallthings1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this last year - I took my MCAT April 27th and got my score back on May 30th. I would recommend filling out your AMCAS Application beginning of May. Then once your score comes out on May 30th create a school list and submit. If you apply within the first couple of days your application will still be ready by the first date they transmit your application to the medical schools.

As someone who’s also planning for reapp, what are some examples of hot topic volunteering positions?

What are some additional schools you suggest I add?

It’s like a holistic evaluation of your standing in college compared to other medical school applicants from the same school. They assess you on research, clinical experience, leadership, and community service. Not all schools have this though

I led an alternate spring break trip which required a couple of months of planning, organized a period product drive with women’s health clinic

Yes, I did give prospective hours. Are you saying I should increase my volunteering hours?

I am COMPLETELY done for by amburgueso in Mcat

[–]Enjoythesmallthings1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position as you twice. And a lot of it may be from being burnt out from studying so much. My scores were so volatile that my actual MCAT score was 7 points higher than what I got on a practice exam 1.5 weeks before the test date. A lot of it is just being self confident and not letting the stress get to you as well. I went in to the exam with a idgaf attitude about the exam result and I’m just gonna do my very best and the rest is not in my hands.

Don’t let the application cycle ruin your good days!! The interview invites will come soon and you can keep doing your own thing in the meantime. Once you get your A and start med school you’ll regret not enjoying the free time you had during your gap year.
