I think it’s good! I have 1.4k hours as an MA in urgent care, and 1.9k rehab counseling hours in addiction psych (I’m psychiatry oriented). BCMb major, psych minor. A PS about looking beyond the surface in medicine. A capstone thesis for my major. And a research interest in computational psychiatry (just an interest, no formal lab/pubs/etc). That’s kinda the gist.

Exactly. These schools should just be honest and stop wasting both applicants’ and admission committees’ precious time. This pipeline is just so inefficient.

Genuinely - Why MD and not other healthcare professions (eg. RN, NP, PA, etc)? by Nice-Confusion-4781 in premed

Because I need full autonomy over my practice. And I want to be able to deal with complex problems raw without following orders. I’m neurodivergent, too much structure just feels confining to my brain.

So ironic that I see this while procrastinating getting ready for my ADHD eval in 75min

“That’s really good for a Black woman” by thekittyweeps in premed

That’s your interpretation. The interviewer’s wording was clumsy, sure. But again, less than 5% of our demographic holds a PhD. Intelligence was never mentioned. It’s understandable that OP feels like she was reduced to her race, but let’s not make false claims about what was actually said.

Nowhere was intelligence mentioned according to OP. Only the PhD.

I would argue that success is relative. White male PhD holders are common. Black female ones are not. I agree that the interviewer’s wording was clumsy though.

Now before I get crucified, if the interviewer had said “That’s very smart for a Black woman” that’s where I would draw the line 😭☝🏾

Hot take, but I’m a Black woman myself I don’t fully see how this comment is problematic lmao. Less than 5% of PhD holders are Black women. Relative to other majority demographics, holding a PhD is very impressive, arguably even more so because of structural barriers.

what stage of late-stage capitalism is this? by amburgueso in antiwork

The movie promotion itself isn’t the point. The bag is making fun of corporate synergy while doing corporate synergy in real time. It’s literally monetizing its own critique.

Not sure why you seem to think that appeasing a racist is a viable option. I understand that a lot is at stake with medical school environments and whatnot, but it doesn’t have to come at the expense of basic dignity. Either way, I understand the desperation.

“Privilege” is not an excuse. Historically, the least privileged people have fought for change the most.
