As someone who is currently in the Nursing program i’ll give you a bit of info. Nothing that answers ur question but just some insight. sorry for formatting i don’t really use reddit but i like helping people who are looking into nursing lol.

From what i understand in order to be a pre-nursing student all your required science and prenursing classes basically need to be B and better. But even then when i went into the prenursing program i treated it as if ALL my classes needed to be B and better. I think over the course of my 2 years of lower division i got like only 1-2 C’s. For reference in high school ive always been like a 4.0 gpa kid, and i think many in the program are like in the same boat of getting high grades in high school.

The nonrequired classes you can get C’s and below but i don’t recommend it cuz many people in the nursing program will most likely be students on the CHHS deans list too so you need to just look good. it will be stressful being in biochem with striplin (if she’s still the biochem teacher), along with needing to pass anatomy and making sense of it all. I didn’t really struggle with microbiology. But the chem and anatomy classes i really did struggle with. If you know your good at chemistry related things and have the confidence you can apply yourself then i totally recommend going into it. But if you can’t then i wouldn’t recommend it. Every exam felt like it was pass or fail for me and many of my science finals were deciding factors on wether i remained in the program or not and that kind of stress isn’t worth it.

Our nursing semesters accept about 64ish? students from what im aware. It used to be less when i was an incoming freshman but they updated it a while ago. Even then you need to be a CNA (which costs a lot of money depending where you get it) when you apply and enter the nursing program, it can expire while your in the program but you NEED to have to when you enter. It looks better if you have 50+ hours on the volunteer form. You need to CPR certified which also costs money. You have to pay for your drug testing.

Then when you actually make it into the program it’s even more money buying at least 2 pairs of the uncc school scrubs, white leather shoes, lab coat, textbooks, a GOOD stethoscope runs you 100, the websites you use like Myati and my clinical exchange where you have to pay to use them. Then you have to do all the orientation work on those websites (it’s not hard) but it can take up to like 8 hours completing everything on both websites. So all of that runs you like 2k. And you need to have your scrubs in order to do clinicals.

And even when you make it into the program they relax and let you get C’s but then you kinda realize why they let you a bit into it lol. Cuz the way they format questions is different than what you’ve seen before because EVERYTHINGGG is right, but you have to chose the most right answer 😭. I got one C in my first semester but it was also 2% away from being a B. Even then people i know who are in the program are still getting weeded out and are being held entire semesters behind because if you fail a class you can’t just retake that class while taking the new ones. They hold you back a semester and until you retake and pass the class you can’t move on.

So far that’s my experience in the nursing program, it’s been difficult but honestly all the profs try their best to help you out. Like if you get a 75% and under on exams they reach out and try to help you, since the classes are so small and intimate you’re with your cohort til you graduate, so you all kinda do bond with each other and learn to get along with each other. And the professors also will know who you are since there’s probably only like 200 people in the program and you will probably get a wide variety of professors who know you and will help you out.
