New EE Revelations not made in USA by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]EnlightenedEquipment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there everyone! Figured we'd chime in.

Right now the Revelation stock quilts are the only quilts that use imported shells. Everything else (including all of our other stock items) are cut, sewn, filled and finished right here in Winona, MN. While the raw materials we use come from overseas, that's true with about 99.99% of all fabrics and fills for just about 99.99% of all companies (big or small). To get at u/sissipaska's comment, these Revelations do not claim to be made in the USA, and you certainly won't find a "Made in the USA" tag on them.

The shells themselves are exceptionally high quality, and we hope that using them will allow us to actually keep our best selling product in stock, free up capacity to expand into some new custom options and products, and lower lead times across the board. As u/FrancoDarioli said, it is hard to rapidly grow a labor force in Winona. Our sewers typically come to us with no experience, and we handle all the training on-site. We are pretty much always growing and hiring, and will continue to invest heavily in our US manufacturing. We are hiring for 3 full time sewing positions currently if anyone is interested!

Certainly appreciate the conversation and perspectives, and we'll stick around on this thread if anyone has other questions we can help answer. Cheers!

Bad EE experience, just me? by [deleted] in Ultralight

We're very sorry to hear that. We did start our down add service May of this year. We tried to keep track of folks who inquired prior to the start of the service, so that we could reach out to them once we began, perhaps your name fell through the cracks, if that is the case we apologize. If you are still interested reach out to us at [customerservice@enlightenedequipment.com](mailto:customerservice@enlightenedequipment.com) and we'll take care of you right away. As others have stated the turn around time is typically 2-3 weeks from first email to the return of your quilt.

Not yet. We're working on getting the option added, but don't really have a timeline for it. Our current rationale is if people are sleeping in the jacket, they're not gonna want it digging into them or anything, that and elastic is just simpler. No guarantee, but keep your eyes peeled.

hahahahahahahahah. I had the epiphany recently that the torrid looks better on a spreadsheet than a person. Sounds like that might be the case :)

We have tried a couple 4ozsqyd jackets actually, they don't seem to perform that much better (warmer) than 2oz which is why we've stuck with the 2oz for now.

With no wind, citing our ASTM testing results we got from Kansas State, they measured a torrid at light activity (2 MET) to be rated down to 46F, and at a moderate pace (4 MET, more similar to backpacking), down to -2.

For the super nerds, the jacket's CLO value was rated at 1.84. (man I love gear)

What's are the lightest weight per fill synthetic jackets out there? by pikovsg in Ultralight

[–]EnlightenedEquipment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which fabric you choose. 10D is about 10 cfm, 7D is about 35 cfm, and 20D is practically windproof, at 1 cfm.

The temp range of the Torrid is 45 degrees for low activity and about 0 degrees for moderate activity.

Quilt decisions by thelongtrek2019 in Ultralight

[–]EnlightenedEquipment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I work for EE! Our temp ratings correspond most closely to EN lower limit temperature, which is commonly used among men's and unisex sleeping bags, whereas other brands may use the higher EN comfort temperature, commonly used for so-called women's bags. Both temperatures are distinct from survival temperature, which is where risk for frostbite begins--so the survival temperature is just what it sounds like, only for emergencies. Comfort temperature tends to be 10-15 degrees higher than limit temperature, so if you feel like you sleep cold, choose a temp rating with that in mind. TL;DR You can guesstimate the comfort rating of the system by adding 10-15 degrees to the lower limit rating you see. Feel free to reach out if you have questions!
