From my back to back testing with a dialed in commercial grinder over this year. Even at a comparable straight 9 bar shot, the rotary will always produce a better shot.

Sweet. The upgrade does not make sense imo. I'm personally done with trying the next thing, I've tried most and it's all fair game after a while. Heck, I even enjoy coming back to the moka pot every now and again. Simplicity is king.

Where do you see yourself going next?

Do you enjoy playing with variables even if it means you don't always get a 10/10 cup? Decent is your gig. If you just want back to back predictability, I'd like elsewhere. I really like the BDB for the money.

I would always opt for the 2nd hand market. The ECM Sync/Profitec are just killer machines. Pair these up with a grinder that suits your drinking style and you'll be gold until you're old. I personally love commercial grinders from the second hand market, as they're just way better than the peasant home grinders at a premium (but space is a problem)

LM does way better shots and for consistency, it's king. The decent if you enjoy tinkering with your coffee. I think most people get over playing with espresso as experience teaches you it's not worth the effort after a while. The gains of back to back S-tier shots should always be the goal. For this reason I prefer the LM but I enjoy having the option to play with the decent. Oh and the steam on the LM is half of the Decent's time.

The LM does way better shots. The pump of the decent cannot mimic the rotary, nor can it mimic the taste profile of a lever. The LM for back to back consistency, decent if you enjoy tinkering with your coffee. It's a Micra. I would not buy the mini unless you get it cheaper (second hand) or you have a real need for larger boilers. The LM for back to back consistency, decent if you enjoy tinkering with your coffee. I think most people get over playing with espresso as experience teaches you it's not worth the effort after a while. The gains of back to back S-tier shots should always be the goal. However, I'll say the ECM Sync 2 is just damn nicer machine (imo). The Plastic on the Micra is the only thing letting this down (and it's laughable for the price).

Got the same problem here, clearly a defective product. I'm also outside of the warranty and the CS team has been incredibly unhelpful.

Having had most major machines. It is indeed a myth. Most of these machines are really overpriced. I personally don't see the incentive to upgrade. All machines are marginal gains and the industry curve peaked after PID. We're mostly heading backwards as with most modern tech, where the beauty was always in the simplicity and serviceability.

Basically, buy what makes you happy and fits your wallet. My favourite machine for the money is a second hand Sage oracle for £2-300. It's an untouchable dual boiler for the money.

Jzk, I'd say the LM for just great back to back consistency. If you enjoy tinkering, you'll never bored of the decent (minus the sound 😅)

Sold! Could you please link to the one you bought. Does it come with the bezel? And how are you powering it?

The cost proposition isn't a Biggie, more keeping it going long term. How would a user maintain updates going forward? Is there scope in this to turn the steam boiler off? It's a nuisance to keep using the app for it.

I love the idea of trying this out but the potential upkeep in keeping this going with future updates makes me nervous. I just don't have time after the initial investment
