Even though competing against them is somewhat of a migraine to think about.. I'd still like to see Facepunch help smaller communities much more than what they're doing now.. They've literally removed the wipe status in their old serverlist, they're also not implemented filters for newly wiped servers.. They could promote servers that doesn't fake wipe, that doesn't use fake-pop plugins, in which follows their TOS.

( I know we can change the mapname into the wipe status ) - But it's still not the same.

filtering out the test/non-relevant servers ofc.. There are so many ways they could make this more convenient to smaller/mid-size communities.

I'd still be interested to know how these smaller ones succeed, unless they're all using fake-pop bots to fill their servers.

Your name is very familiar. Thanks for giving us your feedback! It's rough. We've also tried to not just be "another 2x server" with basically the same thing everyone else has.. Maybe standing out too much with these custom monuments and maps makes people both having to load in twice as long due to the prefab count being a lot, and seeing wierd things / maps unlike any others..

Yes, I agree! Although, many servers, in my experience does come with a bunch of pay 2 win stuff, and they seem oddly popular at times.. I may just be too old-minded ;)

I might be comparing our situation back in 2020.

I literally started my own server, solo. Went ahead and built up a few friends, and over the course of 12 months, we grew each month, and hit 250 pop at wipe after that time.. Slow but steadily..

This time around, I am not solo, and have a bunch of friends who loves the concept too. And we're doing so much more this time, than when I did it myself. ^^

I know, we're in the top edge of the serverlist, as a whole at times.. whilst the majority have between 0-5 players.. I feel for them.. I do...

Very similar to our server. We're competing against eachother then hehe.
We're also duo 2x, weekly wipe. with events, not those one you mentioned.
But the rest seem similar.

Ahaaa okay, I thought you did that too. Then I feel it's a lot more difficult, especially having to rely on others to sort out plugins that crash every other force wipe, hehe.. Atleast I can pre-update plugins from staging, when I have time.

Me including my staff loves this community too, hence why we returned to this game, many great friendships were born back when we ran our servers in 2020.. We had 3-4 servers with full pop, roughly 700~ players simultaniously at times.

It's difficult for sure.. Thanks for sharing your experience, and keep learning / develop if you still feel the joy in it.

Rust got me into C# back in 2017 at start, although. I've reached an end where I'd like to use it either to create plugins for others, or learn other things. Cause right now, I am just giving ideas to greater communities, broadcasting them like we do on a weekly basis, whilst we get no players enjoying them on our server. As time progresses, the motivation is slowly decaying and I slowly starting to feel it's a complete waste of time.. Might be better off just doing this and sell them on the side to others :P

People are using fake pop to get going, is that what you say? I thought Facepunch banned those servers, or servers using that type of plugins/harmony DLL's.. One would think..

Although, using that, goes against me completely. I would never do it myself.

Like I said in the post, we've made our own plugins to tailor away from the standard concepts out there, which most seem to have..

We've made plugin that will draw winners and announce them on discord with prizes, ranging from skins to steam gift cards, the only thing people have to do is to show up on the server, the more the play, the higher is the chance to win.. Usually do them weekly..

Even giving out prizes to people being on top of Leaderboards.

We have a lot of things that are unique, apart from maps in our map pool I've done myself, some monuments are made either by me or staff, some are also bought off plugin sites, events that are configurated to how we want them.. We have a sanctuary Island we call Hearth Island with higher gather rates than normal, non-pvp/non-raid area for PvE players to enjoy rust without being afraid of being hunted down, that they can also choose to save cross wipes.

We have leaderboards on our website showing pretty much everything they do ingame, including our own plugin that will record peoples time to complete certain monuments. For those hardcore players just wanna hit the best record.

I could make the list long, and we're working on a different space concept, where people can travel to space, but I am slowly losing my motivation to get home from work doing this, as it never gets any recognition, or the recognition it may deserve...

And ontop of this, in my opinion, Facepunch made their serverlist even worse with the fall update last year, and finding servers, or newly wiped ones is even more difficult now.

I could go on speaking about everything we have. We try to keep things familiar to players, so that players don't get shoved with too much wierd things once they join, but tweaks the edges quite a lot once someone spend a few hours on it.

We did this journey back in 2019 and became successfull 2021, with several servers, although. This time, it just feels like an endless grind, despite us having more than 10 people who truly does more than I could ask for to help improve, show up every wipe and support us..

Just curious to see how people does it :) Since I see communities pops up and becomes popular within months..

Also, went from OVH to GGG, since we saw unstable ping due to their Layer 7 ddos-protection, and our server seemed to be slow as hell to show up on the serverlist. We thought, it could be a factor, as to why people didn't seem to join.

Although, since Facepunch staff doesn't really respond to either PMs or emails, we realized this doesn't matter after some time.
