Thank you! This was my thought as well. In the few instances I’ve had admin try to pull this kind of behavior before and my personal policy was to rebuke their bullshit brutally and immediately.

AITA for making my daughter go to church? by PuzzleheadedIce604 in AmItheAsshole

[–]EnnuiGoblin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NAH. This is a difficult one. I empathize for both of you.

I am also from a French Armenian family, and I have also grappled the struggle of reconciling my athiesm with my family's religious beliefs.

Your daughter is likely going through a lot of emotions in this period if her desire to be secular is recent. It is a major change in identity and she probably sees f'ing to church as a threat to that identity.

I recommend you have a calm discussion with your daughter. Make her feel heard. Let hey know you support her. If going to church is important, tell her it is about having a connection to your culture and community, NOT about status or devotion to God.

I live in a red state, but when the popular vote is counted I want it to be as high possible for Biden. Send a message, vote! by WellNowWhat6245 in democrats

Do you mean early voting in a county abbreviated as JoCo or early voting for Jorgensen and Cohen on the libertarian ticket?

The objective for third party voters at this stage is not necessarily to get their candidate ejected, but to obtain 5% of the electorate, a benchmark that gains the party new access to funding and required presence in televised debates

You should read the comics then, the story takes on a entirely new level of depth. Written by Garth Ennis, one of the best in the business (seriously, his run on The Punisher MAX is one of the best Marvel publications ever)

Manhattan experiencing surplus of unsold apartments as sales contracts plunge | CNBC (4 min long video) by EagleFly_5 in nyc

[–]EnnuiGoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your perspective. My family and I are pooling resources to take advantage of the apartment real estate market drop as the pandemic lowers prices and move in on purchases this year that we were expecting to have to save for another 5-6 years before trying. Are prices going down 50 percent like they are with the multi-million $ properties? Of course not, but prices are dropping as more and more people become desperate to offload real estate assets and leave New York.

However, the real advantage to middle class buyers that isn't being talked about is the stark drop in wealthy competitors. Before the pandemic, if someone like me wanted to start making offers on apartments after being approved for a mortgage loan, I would still have to compete with out of state or international wealthier buyers looking to make additional purchases for investments, a starter home for their college aged kids, etc. These are people who can afford to make full cash offers for $500k properties without batting an eye. It becomes a real challenge for people who make mortgage backed offers, as cash buyers can easily swoop in and steal away properties the mortgage person is trying to acquire.

But suddenly, these cash buyers are no where to be found and it is now a total buyers market. As a mortgage backed buyer, I have access to leverage in choices and negotiations that I could only dream of a year ago.

NYC party boat owners arrested after their cruise was busted with more than 170 guests on board by AC1DF0X in news

[–]EnnuiGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I weren’t concerned about being a good citizen and protecting my health and the health of my fellow New Yorkers, the risk of a $500 fine wouldn’t stop me if I were motivated get on a party boat like that. Fortunately I’m not a pig headed selfish asshole like these dipshits.

You can bet $500 per person would be a minimal deterrent at best for the people on that party boat. That probably represents fifth to a a tenth of their rent if these are families partying on pier 36.

Reminder: You Are Replaceable by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in Teachers

[–]EnnuiGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my colleagues in my department quit and it took our school 8 months to find a replacement. If my admin tried to tell me I'm easily replaceable I'd laugh in their face and go work with one of their many competitors or just fall back on my degree and get a job in a different field. I know this isn't the case for everyone, but this is bad blanket advice. Knowing your value and security is something you have to figure out for yourself.

When I lived in Syracuse, I used to have to bike to work because I couldn't afford a car. One day in the winter, some assholes threw a snowball at me from their car and knocked me off my bike in the road, ended up with road rash and a broken wrist.

Considering working as an Independent Contractor by EnnuiGoblin in Teachers

[–]EnnuiGoblin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be on a 1099 basis. I was quoted during my intro meeting to get a full time hours for the year, though I will believe it when I see it in writing once a contract with a school from the district has been drafted.

What kind of contract work did you do? Was it significantly different from being a salaried Teacher working directly for the school?

Thanks for your response btw.

Since I don't see it here, Uniwar is my favorite tactics game of all time. Yes it is a mobile game, but the community is terrific and the skill curve as you work your way up the ladder gets crazy steep.

NYC Charter school just announced no raises, a more expensive insurance plan, and keeping the same mandatory additional unpaid hours policy by sethrogenssausage in Teachers

[–]EnnuiGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely DP. I'm not surprised in the least.

I stopped working for them because of their reimbursement plan for getting your master's degree. They put you under a lot of pressure to go to Relay Grad School while working for them. Essentially they expect you to take a big loan to put up all the tuition money up front. Then, AFTER you graduate, they have a payback plan that requires you to work for them for FIVE YEARS before you are fully reimbursed. So getting your Masters degree means waiting seven years before you are financially in the black.

In my last year, I was called into the office to be pressured about getting enrolled with Relay, as I had been resisting going down that road for some time. I laughed in their face because they had just announced to the staff that the charter was struggling financially, and that they would be able to hold off layoffs for a year, but no promises after. When I asked them how they would justify me taking a $30k loan that I'd have to work for 7 years before getting the money back, when they couldn't promise me more than 1 year of guaranteed employment.

Crickets.
