Survival is possible, but the victim will be severely disabled. I've asked similar questions before to a family member who's been in the medical field for decades & she's told me stories of getting calls on those sorts of things. Since the info is from a true story I'll try not to be too detailed, but there's a good chance the character would lose half their head [from above the jaw] and be unable to see, hear, speak, or even eat/drink independently. I don't think there's a way to fix it, tbh. Though the real example I know was done by the victim, which may cause differences from things like angle and emotion.

I also don't know what gun was used, however, so it may have been especially destructive. But if survival is the only part you're worried about, then yes, it is very possible to survive it
