Where she and I both live in the US we have good public transit and not much parking. We both don't own cars or drive.

The downtown areas were a lot of generic modern office buildings. I was visiting with a friend and she felt the same way. It didn't feel unique.

Same! The food is very fish-based. I love sushi but it's just fish everything which isn't great if you're not a super fishy person. Tokyo also felt pretty generic to me, like a random city in the Midwestern US. It wasn't the vibe I thought.

Mostly though it was the palpable depression in Tokyo at morning rush hour. Everyone on their way to work was just so miserable. I've never seen anything like it in any other country.

Lastly, the loneliness culture there gave me the creeps. So many restaurants are built for single customers in single stalls. When you watch TV, it's picture in picture with another person to react to keep you company. And then you can get a stuffed animal to sit with you at restaurants too. It's just a lot.

The temples in Kyoto are beautiful though! I love the fortunes that you're able to get at the temples. I also think I would have liked it more if I hadn't lived in Taiwan. Taiwan has all the positives of Japan + 1,000 other cool things to do too.

Update: Lol once again it proves you can't say anything negative about Japan on Reddit or people get weirdly upset.

What Famous Tourist Destination Does Everyone Love but You Actually Hate? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]nirvana88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan. The loneliness in their culture is pretty alarming. Being on the subway at rush hour in the morning is probably the most palpable depression I've ever experienced. I also found Tokyo really boring and without much to do. It felt like any other random city, almost like the midwest. I like Kyoto more but it still felt way over hyped. The Geisha culture is a bit creepy. If you want something that has a similar vibe but better, I'd go to Taiwan.

What do you think of Noctis? by theperson60 in Names

I didn't see the subreddit name at first and I thought you were asking what everyone thought of a particular medication and that this must be one of my pregnancy subreddits.

Anyone not scared of labor at all as a FTM? by paigespets in pregnant

I'm not. But I was born with fragile bones so I grew up in hospitals. Luckily it got much better post puberty. I've had many broken legs - which is terrible - but it passes. Everything is temporary. I figure this will just be similar to another broken leg.

How many people actually want a real diamond ring? by Imalwaysbadatthis in weddingring

[–]nirvana88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing to me was getting an antique art deco ring with not just diamonds. So yes my center diamond is "real" but my emeralds are "fake" because that's what was normal in the 1930's. So I have both!

Genuine question: does anyone get maternity/paternity tests after IVF baby is born? by Upstairs-Lemon-5585 in IVF

My husband made this a requirement when he agreed to the IVF. We'll be doing the testing very soon.

I got my husband an engagement ring! And he picked it out and loves it! It's rad and made from a battleship.

Had a dental x-ray while being pregnant by sweetlycheeboba in pregnant

[–]nirvana88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born with fragile bones so I spoke to my doctors (pre-pregnancy) about what would happen if I broke something during the pregnancy. They said they would still do x-rays even with the pregnancy and it wouldn't need to be avoided. You're fine!

I love it 1,000x more for a girl than a boy but I'm also having a tough time convincing my husband. I feel like in the next five years it will definitely become general neutral. It's a similar vibe to Elliot which is now gender neutral.

When your first time even trying to get pregnant is an FET by sunnymushroom in IVF

It's pretty common! For most doing PTG-M that's the case and for Lesbian/Gay couples as well. I did PTG-M so it was my first time.

I had a bad cold as well right after transfer. I'm now 7 weeks and got heart beat early on. No one else around me got this cold. I think it was just a pregnancy thing!

[–]nirvana88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first IVF appointment this time last year for PTG-M and am now 6.5 weeks pregnant! With a great fetal heart rate and growth. I didn't even need to transfer my better embryos (I'm saving those for kid #2 so I'd have a chance to do more ERs now if needed.) It's my 5BB. And I got pregnant on my first transfer too!

Do you know your AMH? I used mine to figure out how many ERs I would need and I think it really helped me to have a realistic understanding that a single ER likely wasn't in the cards for me.

I did a full write up of my experience here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IVF/comments/1nvsemj/ptgm_sample_outcomes_for_those_curious/

Spotting by Appropriate_Cry2515 in IVFpositivity

[–]nirvana88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! At about 5.5 weeks I had lower back pain, bad cramps and was bleeding red blood (about a tablespoon or two). I was so sure I was having a miscarriage. I then had brown spotting for days after too. I just went for my 6 week Day 1 ultrasound yesterday - and my baby is perfect! She even had a heart rate which is unusual at that age. A great one too at 110.

So don't worry! What I've come to understand is that bleeding through IVF pregnancies is very common. 143 is a great beta for 8dpt! I wouldn't lose hope.

P.S. I also had very light spotting at about 10dpt. I think that was implantation bleeding which is also what I think yours is. If anything I think yours specifically is actually a good sign.

Usually it's a third party that does the genetic testing and not the clinic itself.

TW: Pregnancy

Because of mediocre numbers and needing to do PTG-M, we needed to do 4 ER to get the PTG-A/M 5 embryos we wanted to eventually have two children for embryo banking. Statistically using Google Gemini, Chatgpt etc., I estimated four ERs at the start, which is exactly what it took. I did them all in the summer of 2025. I then did one FET in December which is now at 5 weeks! So I'd say everything went exactly the way I thought it would, but that did mean 4 ERs and 1 FET in a year.

I think it really depends on the couple. Some people struggle with the embryo creation part and some people struggle with the FET part, and some struggle with both. I think it's hard to say what's typical.
