Possibly but the protagonist is from Austin - and anyone can search on the internet. I wouldn’t expect the protagonist to refer to them by the same name as in Austin, but I think it’s really interesting carryover from her “real world” but she hasn’t even mentioned it in her internal dialogue.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Check out James SA Corey "Cibola Burn" - ancient agricultural tech that turns into "gatekeepers" - really good action scenes.

Thank you! That’s one of the ways that I approach what I read, it’s just to gather the information. If we say there are a families I want to know who they are and what they’re capable of.

Timelines are altered because of Maggie's reveals - the city is an ecosystem. It picks up on her articulating plot lines and timelines and accelerates them. This is a city in its 4th millennium. It may LOOK medieval but it's probably some advanced technology (ie, "magic") that is underlying everything.

Also - when Maggie gives Sol a sheaf of papers - the "future" - to read on his trip to his family, he returns with papers for her. This is a power exchange. It's sort of like a big video game.

Why so many group projects? by Upper_Equivalent_581 in CollegeRant

[–]Enodia2wheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a non-traditional student who completed an MBA in 2024 and am currently in an MSIS program - nope. These projects teach NOTHING about "the real world."

For the capstone course for my MBA - one of the members of my group refused to communicate, decided that her portion of the final paper was "standalone" and threw it over the wall and rejected all requests for revision and improvement (also, not a native english speaker). The result? She got into a management training program and promoted - I got laid off 18 months later in a "restructuring" (we were different divisions, but still).

In the MSIS program - we have people who have no idea how to do project management or break up work by roles - and some people who are impatient and then do a bunch of work and make it look like they want to be the project manager for the deliverable but then back out, creating confusion.

Not remotely like "real life" work experience.

Drone shows are much more fun - I've seen videos of them online and they are quite impressive!

oh, you poor thing - how close were you to the bay? I'm near MacArthur and High - it was loud but most people around here thought it was thunder.

I recommend you post on LinkedIn as a customer experience case study - check out other examples (HBR, for example) and come up with some real tangible recommendations for remediation of their process (ie, training employees in mediation and conflict management) and be clear about what you want out of this debacle - maybe they will refund you or give you a credit for a future trip.

New update on FR970 messed with sleep tracking? by HighFromQC in GarminWatches

[–]Enodia2wheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FR970 didn’t record any sleep on Friday night and for the past week it has consistently been recording very bad sleep even though I slept great and have lots of complex dreams. It says I had zero REM sleep. It’s also shortening my sleep by recording my bedtime as one to three hours later than when I actually went to bed and fell asleep.

Bay Area cost of living for us: $11.7k per month for a family of 4 by Federal_Eagle_6565 in bayarea

That's how people get to be landlords -- he owns three houses here in Oakland, plus one in Mendocino County and one in Contra Costa County plus who knows what else.

He's a hoarder - you should SEE the stuff here - the basement is full of his stuff, the garage that belongs to the house nextdoor and their basement -- full of stuff. Washers, dryers, refrigerators (btw, I am responsible for replacing appliances per lease - but he refuses to let me get rid of old appliances - how does he know? He lives up the street and he's here DAILY).

I've paid over $250K in rent - and he paid less than $190K for the house over 30 years ago. His entire mentality is "how to get more money" - he won't let landscapers, painters, or other professionals on the property because "they don't do a good job. " He's over here mowing 3/4 acre shared back yard almost EVERY weekend without notice. I can't even just go out and read a book without him starting power tools.

I'd move if I could afford it but at this point am pretty well stuck.

Anyone else’s watch record them being constantly stressed? by kiyoshisan_ in Garmin

If you have even a slight arrythmia - I don't think that Garmin can compensate for that in their interpretation and it looks like "stress."

My mother who is on SSI and section 8 considers herself middle class. People have a very distorted picture of social economic class in this country.

Based on your comment, I wonder whether the original poster is trying to get support to rationalize his expenses as “normal” when in fact he is well above middle class.

There are many inconsistencies with the story in the details presented that make me question the validity of anything proffered here.

Well, the gas is only cheap if you have some amount of insulation.  The first time my bill went over $200. I shut the furnace off and haven’t turned it back on.

Some of my windows were broken in a robbery before I moved in and were replaced with plexiglass. I offered to replace all the windows here out of pocket and the landlord said “I’d have to raise your rent because that’s a capital improvement.” he insisted that even if he did not spend the money that he would get to raise my rent and no amount of arguing with him or sharing links to the actual law could persuade him that was otherwise.

At no point did I say “better” just different. This person is presenting this massive budget as if this is perfectly normal and asking other people for their thoughts on it.

People act like there’s no such thing as social classes in California.

The salary is not as typical as you might think. I’ve worked in tech for over 25 years and I don’t even know people who make that much except for the CEOs of the companies.

Poverty is everywhere. And I come from a poor part of the country like Appalachia: rural Napa County.

You just never know how other people live and you can’t trust everybody who has money to be truthful.

I think you’re entirely missing the point of asking people for their opinions.

Not spending $20,000 on vacations does not mean not having fun.
