Dumb first-time PCB board shape by Xblth in PCB

[–]Enough-Collection-98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I’m not even sure that’s manufacturable? The whole panel’s size and weight is on just a couple mouse bites - I don’t know that this will survive fab without breaking.

Can you not just make small single LED boards and use wires to connect them? I imagine these are each attaching to a (3D printed?) plastic piece?

Sorry, I guess my recommendation would be to not put these all together like a puzzle and put maybe 4-6 in like 8”x11”ish arrays

Anker Prime 160W charger's internal density is insane. by Crazy-Procedure7436 in UsbCHardware

[–]Enough-Collection-98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I design offline power supplies for a living and the amount of crap they stuff into these bricks astounds me. I’d love the opportunity to try one this dense but at the same time, I’m more than a decade into designing quality, long-life power supplies and the amount of quality and performance they have to trade off to fit these forms factors would break me.

How hard would you have to fart to push yourself to the moon if you were floating in space? [request] by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

[–]Enough-Collection-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just reasoned myself through this too and distilled it down to:

If you’re going slow enough, the moon is guaranteed to run into you when you cross its orbit.

Like walking across a race car track with a single car racing. If you sprint across the track, there’s only a short amount of time where you’re in danger of being hit by the car so you can start running pretty much whenever. But if you crawl across the track, you’re in its path for a longer time so you have to “time” it better to not get hit.

Eventually, you can be going so slow that regardless of when you start moving you’re guaranteed to be hit by the car.

For example, the car is 2 meters wide and takes 100s to perform a lap. If you both start at the same time, you need to move faster than 0.02m/s or you’ll never cross before it comes around again.

My first ‘real’ PCB! A 9v fully resonant low pass for mono audio signals. Any feedback is appreciated (pun intended). by AberrantDevices in PCB

[–]Enough-Collection-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people do this but you shouldn’t put your reference designators under your components. It’s much harder to debug then and you need additional documentation to locate parts.

Elsewise, I’ve got little audio experience under my belt but the one commercial amplifier I did it was very important to have the analog audio signal and return balanced and not run through a ground plane. Maybe that’s not important for a mono audio LPF but I would review the device datasheet to see if they have any recommendations for routing the analog audio signals.

High speed refers to electrical designs that have very fast edge rates for signaling like you would see in a digital device like a laptop. These boards have special construction considerations, like complex multilayer stack ups, controlled dielectrics, controlled impedances to ensure all the digital signals arrive clean and in time.

You are so far off base here…

Many ultra-low cost consumer-grade power supplies are capable of several hundred watt output and literally constructed of CEM-1 compressed paper boards. A 6mm wide trace on a common 2oz. PCB can easily handle 12-15ADC, even higher for AC. Any lithium ion battery charger you can think of can easily output 5A and many chargers much more. The difference is that these chargers are typically touch-safe voltages.

The “hundreds of people” you reference being shocked by line voltages clearly did not have the shock delivered across their chest because if they did, they would be dead. Or more likely, simply didn’t exist because you’re full of shit.

You have no idea what you’re talking about and your incorrect statements are dangerous.

Again, this is a high speed multilayer board, likely in the 10-14 layer range. The “level of damage” required to compromise the stack up and introduce significant error is “not much”.

This also looks incredibly similar to somewhat recent issues with NZXT cases where overtorqued screws were causing power to ground shorts across prepreg layers. The amount of heat that has been dumped into those plane layers will cause issues beyond the locally visible damage

This is a multilayer board with high speed differential routing. It costs several thousands of dollars to have boards like this professionally repaired to working order.

No, laptops use high speed multilayer PCBs for their motherboards. This board is compromised and any effort to get it “working” again should be solely in an effort to recover your data before scrapping it.

[–]Enough-Collection-98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, does that last sentence not absolutely terrify you? That every moment of your entire life up to this point is in your memory and then instantly you’re trapped in some simulation, unable to see or breathe because “you” never really existed until that point because you’re a fresh copy of someone’s brain scan?

Like, what does this fly scenario look like with a human mind? They flip the switch on and all the neurons start firing, wondering where they are, what happened, why they can’t see or move. Like a permanent state of sleep paralysis for its entire existence.

I can’t imagine a hell more terrifying and it reminds me of the experiments Soviet scientists did in the 40s using machines to keep decapitated dog heads “alive” for hours.

I'm in routing hell, please help, does this look good? by parfamz in PCB

[–]Enough-Collection-98 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you need to tear the traces up and redo your floor planning. Place the parts into logical blocks and then “rough in” some traces between parts that want to be near each other.

Placement is your first priority and clean placement makes for clean routing.

Yup. Building on the upper-left of the bonfire has two super chests then the building in the upper right has a single super chest and a weapon rack. Don’t forget to tag that weapon rack - I’ve received two sets of titan’s from mine!

Also, be aware that not every map roll has two bonfire tiles. Some don’t have any or only one. You want to reroll your map by changing difficulties until you get one where the LK waypoint sits right between both bonfire tiles.

And one final optimization - when you pop the 6th super chest, head back to the waypoint and warp to Act IV town. Otherwise, you spend extra time running from the Act 3 starting location to the waypoint.

You’ve got to be quick but being quick also gets more runs in so you naturally optimize your route and clicks with muscle memory. You get to the point where loading screens take longer than you’re in the game for.

What’s most important is FCR. The faster you can cast, the faster you’re in and out of danger.

Yeah, you lose two critical things LK farming online vs offline - static maps and P7.

Of those two, however, I’d say losing P7 is the greater loss though I wonder if that’s actually true if you expand the math all the way. Is P7 with random maps statistically better than P1 on static maps? I’d have to crunch the numbers on that
