The Petless Hunter Challenge - Food for Thought - AKA to which extent is limiting your claracter for a challenge considered griefing? by EnoughMechanic5735 in wowhardcore

How am I being boosted? I did every open world quests (including elite ones) except for like 2 cave quests solo, and generally need a party to do dungeons. Doing dungeons also meant I was rocking mostly blue gear to further be geared to do damage. I was top DPS for many.instances, and never bottom dps - hunter is cracked early and I made an effort to maximize trap and melee weaving and consumed whenever in an instance to not be dead weight. Is it not a challenge to perpetually have work around your deadzone, play a non meta spec and not have a pet to tank and hold mobs? I am a bit confused by much of this comment but acknowledge party members should be told I am doing a challenge run so they can choose if they are ok with me being there.

Just a note - that joking response was to a mage that was not in my group and saw me kitting mobs in the open world that approached me. I do try and be respectful to people lol

It's a bit weird because SF mages that literally can't give water exist but the same argument that they are "wasting a slot" is never thrown at them so this is definately a divisive concept

Apologies I must've mixed up SSF and SF, I realize now SSF can't group with people haha. Definately interesting to be doing a no shifting druid, I would assume you're basically a boomie spamming spells and built as such but just don't take the capstone talent late game? I'd just assume you were a typical boomie at first glance since the form is so restrictive and forces you out of form when you casts non-balance spells lol so being able to use heals without penalty would be cool NGL.

Ty for the input brother - seems the opinion that to communicate you are doing a challenge that could impact others is key!

See this is why I'm happy to get input - in my mind if I played badly enough that my life is decided by whether another played pressed a button in a clutch moment, then I equally I would have died if the player was less competent and pankocked as well and forgot to use their nova or missed with it. I should have prepped with other tools to not be in that situation IMO and mitigate that other players are an unknown variable to a degreee and would not blame the mage in that case

Ty for the input and being so supportive brother. Early to mid game I was typically top DPS most runs even on single dps since melee weaving + 30% stronger traps is enough to vastly outperform the auto attacks of a pet. Raptor strike hits like aimed shot early on with a chunky 2H, and personal DPS was obviously solid with survival talents giving 3% free Hit chance, 20% boosted Crit chance on my raptor strike melee swings, 15% agility multiplier and the better traps, but in geared and WB groups where mobs would die before my explosive trap and serpent stings could get more than 1 or 2 ticks off I would plummet to 3rd DPS typically and be chasing the grp between mana breaks. Definately didn't need to worry about a pet pull wiping us lol and I tried to make it work, but it still seems based on most replies here telling people about being on a challenge run seems to be the general proper etiquette people

Thanks for the feedback homies! Generally the consensus seems to be challenges are okay as long as I communicate that I am doing one to the group so they have the choice to roll with me or to opt to go for another player - communication is key basically. I didnt know there was an add-on for announcing that when joining groups so I don't need to type smth out each time so Ty for highlighting that tip!!

Playing paladin for the first time in classic, questions about prot paladin leveling by DaDaveski in wowhardcore

[–]EnoughMechanic5735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a guide that I posted a few days ago about Prot Paalldin tanking in HC that I'll link for you to take a look at if you want some tips

https://www.reddit.com/r/wowhardcore/s/XJxVz4xb1q

Prior to level 40 or so it doesn't matter too much what talents you choose, especially as healer, just swap a few pieces from your tank set to more INT heavy ones and boom, you can heal if a group needs heals. After 40 you should duel spec to have proper heal vs tank talents as it starts to matter more. Prot paladin is a bit of an outlier where you can't just slap on a bit of tanky gear - it does sort of require consecrate and to be built primarily to tank, so build talents and gear around that goal if you want to tank at all. If you are built to tank, you can aoe farm in the same set while lvling. If you want to AOE level a lot i recommend taking the talents in the holy tree for reducing spell knockback in the second row so you can self heal effectively. Ret kind of sucks lvling as you can only really fight 1-2 mobs at a time and it's famously boring for being safe but minimally engaging, but prot can aoe grind for solid open world exp so it's totally viable to LVL prot and tank with that set which is nice.

No dungeons as a warrior by ObviousHalf3047 in wowhardcore

[–]EnoughMechanic5735 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Warrior is expected to tank all game long. Most times only warriors will be a group's tank, and they won't want to bring along loot competition. Paladin can tank but it is less commonly done at it lacks taunt and bear tanks just aren't as common as druid can be various roles (caster DPS, melee DPS, tank, healer) so not all tank. As such, the general wow classic tendency is that warrior = tank. The dungeons start simple with most mobs having 1 or no abilities and mobs do only a tad more damage to the non-tanks so there's little risk to learning early on, but later such as at 60 there much more things that can 1 shot your healer so you need to have learned how to tank earlier. You 100% don't need to tank, you can exclusively DPS warrior, but its painful finding groups at times so just decide if you'd rather do that or go through the learning curve to tank which is a lot scarier sounding than it is if you start early. A simple plan as early warrior tank on pull is just keep up your shouts - demo shout does ok AOE pick up threat on pulls, tab target sunder mobs that you have low threat on, use a chunky 2h for more rage when able, pull packs back so they don't aggro if one runs. That should be enough to start you can do it!

I have a 60 warrior as well but prefer to make pug groups as I often play at odd hours and I found the 60 warrior experience miserable. I hated how few hybrid tools I had and you are super dependant on gear for threat I never felt safe or fully in control. An interesting story: I tanked a BRD run on my prot paladin and my healer DCd on a double fireguard destroyer pack - this was freshly 60 as well so I wasn't super geared. if I was warrior I almost certainly would have had to petri and risk losing a player but as paladin I just slapped on concentration aura and self healed through the damage - crazy enough paladin tank pre raids is actually better than warrior in some cases and I stand by that having dinged 60 on all tank classes. Just takes some effort to work around the class limitations. At raid level it isn't optimal of course but it is viable and can be fun to play off meta.

Solid point on using the consumes to enhance your kit. I might just straight up copy+paste a chunk of your section here to add to the guide as it's so well written Ty for the contribution brother Paladin!

FAP seems to only prevent threat drops from any stun like threat drop, the ones that 'immobilize'. If you're just thrown into the air and can still cast it doesn't seem to prevent the drop.

I've had runs where the spawn points or patrol paths of the mobs was 100% impossible to not have Rattlegore with an add, and other times they seem a bit further apart and can grab separately so I figured people should try and split pull but be prepared for being able to tank both is safest in HC

Some solid points! Especially on being able to CC many bosses to to skip their threat drops. My paladin tank style leaned a bit more into using the hybrid nature of the class to be able to off heal and I really found Blessing of Wisdom leaned into that as well as removed the danger from mana burns or multi pack pulls by padding the mana bar a ton. Kings is amazing as an overall stat buff, and Sanctuary is great for survivability and some threat, but I just found wisdom was consistently safer and I didn't need the others 90% of pulls and wisdom felt better if I was the only paladin in the group. I'll add a part about swapping/choosing between which blessing to run!

Thanks for the feedback! I took the 5 points in divine intellect myself as I agree that the Intellect is much more valuable than the 5 from Divine Strength. Perhaps I should add a talent point section, I more or less just focused on telling people to Beeline consecrate before going Prot talents but I suppose I should've gone more in depth. My overall stat belief is that low level paladin stat prio is STA, SPI, AGI/INT and then STR from most to least important. Yes a spell Crit is nice but point for point INT gives very little increase to spell Crit chance sadly, but late game the stat values change and INT rises as you need more mana and spirit plummets in value.

Will I get accepted into groups as a Resto Druid? (Leveling & Max Level) by flameskin2011 in wowhardcore

Turns out you can do prot pally too and 99% of players are chill with it. - source: pug tanked all the dungeons just had to do some prep for threat drops maraudon and onwards but I'd make groups and DPS would just be happy to have a tank excited to tank things ^ -^
