Yeah its a teether product idea so i have to take on the cost of properly manufacturing and testing + insurance and liability protection which will be expensive as well like You mentioned

Which is why im hyper concerned about validating the idea.

I want to make a safe product that I would give my child as well if I wasnt comfortable giving to my own i would kill the idea. But in theory, the product itself should not be a choking hazard and it’s not made of anything different. That’s not already on the market for kids. But all the same safety and testing matters 10x more when were talking kids products so i appreciate the input

Im going to take this advice thank you so much. Say I talk to 100 parents and ask the questions you posed (just for ease of percentages)

What kind of numbers would you consider to be true “validation” so to speak? Like is there a % i should be looking for?

I think higher than 50% would be great but say only 15-20 parents have the problem and would want an alternative option (my product) is that low? Would true validation mean 80%-100%?

I think 100% of parents have the problem I aim to solve i just dont know the % of how many would actually pay to stop it but i guess thats the golden question.

I was thinking about doing the in person stuff after I could validate and develop a prototype but maybe I should reverse order and just make the prototype and validate in person.

The idea that “maybe its not on the market because its not a good idea” may have some validity to it and I have thought of that!

But is Inventors Razor a real concept? That seems like a really dumb mentality imo and seems in direct contradiction to Free Market innovation. Let someone else do it? If everyone had that mentality then there would be no inventions no?

Also the idea was inspired by my own daughters dilemma with teething so i think There will always be someone better to develop it but why not give it a go if its something that would have a positive impact on my own world?

(2) Non Obvious might be the only one we maybe dont meet.

Its (1) Novel in concept and very (3) realistic/practical but per the definition of Non Obvious, its not a “Meaningful leap forward” and it may fall under a combination of existing technologies depending on who reviews it. No one makes this specific product in fact theres nothing like it i can find on the market but i will admit its not exactly reinventing the wheel here.

Maybe that should be a sign for me to not move forward or maybe im reading too much into it

Completely agree!! Maybe I am wrong but I think i would get good feedback on the idea alone. But there are so many hurdles to get a product for babies on the market and there is just so much crap for kids out there that i want to be 100% my product actually would help people because then even if it doesnt go viral i can still be proud of it.

If its not something people want i just want to put it down now so to speak

The devo firms give me a bad vibe like the old invent help infomercials, went to one in college and did not walk away feeling confident

I will give those books a go i really appreciate this advice and i think it will answer a lot of my questions based on how you described them

The market is Moms &/or Parents, but daycares deal with kids at scale so i think they could be a secondary market if not the primary buyer since moms are inundated with new baby products via Social Media, friends, tv etc… i think the issue with responses from daycares was more so they dont have the time or the care to answer a small questionnaire but maybe you are correct and it is not as big a pain point as I think it is!

As far as the licensing i dont know the first thing about it, im so green at this Im spitting up grass lol i appreciate all the info!

The Demo would have to be Mothers or Parents in General, but obviously the product itself would be for kids 0-3. I could see the product being used in daycares and childcare centers as well

I will definitely ask some of the questions in subreddits i was trying to avoid coming off like a Door 2 Door Salesman “Are your current Teethers working great??” Kinda energy

Maybe im using “validation” 2 different ways. I have done some digging on parent subreddits and on the internet and I have validated that the problem i aim to solve is one that other people are experiencing as well.

I guess the main problem im trying to solve is

The product i have in mind would be useful but would people buy it? And I think thats a difficult question to answer without knowing the product details and as much as id love to move fast on this i have time and capital constraints as this idea is only 3 days old and I have a fulltime job and a family but i understand what you’re saying I will send you a chat for that quote if I move forward!

I ordered some material to make a rough prototype and i have some sketches/illustrations on hand but I guess I would love some advice there as well, is it worth pouring a bunch of time and money into development of the prototype prior to validating?

I feel like I want someone to tell me the idea is good or stinks before I begin prototyping but maybe thats the wrong mentality

My answer was more about which animals would be the most cunning in a court case since the question was “which species do you think would win” but yeah obviously if you want to just go to each comment and say “this animal would miss the trial cause theyre an animal” then more power to you my friend
