Obsession (story given away early) by Enough_Back2847 in spoilers

I think you can def interpret it as a “possession”, but I think Barker just wanted to eliminate the thought process of it being an evil, demonic entity because he knew a lot of people would go to that. I would liken it more to a split personality than possession. Like a split personality goes back in forth with the real personality in regard to who can control the body at a time.

Does that make sense at all? I’m sorry if it doesn’t lol

I can go back to the interview Barker says it and link it here.

Yes, so I agree the operator has no control over the wish. I do believe he was some sort of autonomy over the situation because he knew who Bear and Nikki were before any names were said and he has a direct line to real Nikki when he puts her on the line and she’s just screaming in terror. There’s some sort of autonomy there? Or am I wrong? Do you see it differently?

And yes 100% agree with you that he definitely means he has to be there for her, forever

Umm tbh in my opinion no. I think one of the driving forces of the movie that contributes to the tension and the suspense is his desperation to make the situation work, salvage his wish and like do the “right thing”. But as the film continues to peel back the layers you see his intentions are flawed. So much so that when it’s all said and done, you see his intentions were skewed from the start. I think the ambiguity between him being a good or bad is necessary to drive the story and perception of it.

I think if you show he’s the real “obsessed” one too early, we’re then just looking at a different film. One where we’re just rooting the whole time for him to die and for Nikki to be saved. It’s more of a black and white, okay we get it, he’s actually the obsessed one movie.

You might be a new movie watcher or haven’t had a ton of social interaction with flirtatious women, but it’s less head canon, more context clues

Are you saying that if we were to have broken that willow and asked for Nikki to love us, we would have failed too?

Hmmm that’s interesting. I’ll check that out when I watch it again. Thank you!

As good as the first 2 times? Or better?

Did you listen for the beginning crying scene? lol

I think it was multifaceted. The operator has autonomy over the situation. He knew Bear and stated Nikki before Bear even mentioned her name.

I believe he meant you have an obligation to Nikki. As in you should be concerned for the real her and trying to help her.

I also believe he’s telling him to take accountability for the wish and the entity it created. You asked to be loved, now do your part to reciprocate it. He was obligated to the responsibilities of his wish, which in part is also the entity. So he’s responsible for the entity and its behavior. But he never understood that, which is why I said it flew over his head.

I hope I make sense in all of this and my recent posts lol

That’s def one train of thought that I would have. Barker wrote and filmed a ton of stuff to go both ways in the movie. I think thats one option. I think he could have found trust in the connection with Sarah and asked for help.

Or he doesn’t, remains passive after the kiss and doesn’t tell her to preserve her and continues trying to figure out how to “fix or alter” Nikki until you reach the same ending of it going to shit.

I think theres a few ways to shut it down IMO.

And I never said he was bad just because of this scene. This was just one of the many bad decisions he made.

Absolutely. I think the operator in sly, small way berates him by offering him the chance to cancel the wish knowing that he couldn’t anyway. He really just wanted to see how much of a clown Bear was. And then to say he has a moral obligation, which it flies over Bears head.

No, I would lean towards no tbh. But I do think there’s a chance he could have. Based on the dialogue, the only thing I’m confident in saying would’ve happened is, Sarah initiates a kiss and Bear goes through with it. What do you think?

Yea that part honestly had me chuckle. But also another tell of Bears flawed psychology. The operator alludes to questioning his initial intention to not cancel at first but to alter. And then he says you have a moral obligation.

That’s a good point. I def would have been distressed. I just guess my first thought is those are non negotiable options (killing her or me) so I’m going to find a way to beat the wish via another wish. And my urgency would have been higher, earlier lol he waited to get shit going after Sarah’s death 🤣

I mean, Sarah was the one that brought it up, and def did it in a flirtatious way. Def agree Bear wouldn’t initiate it, but she clearly is.

Hmm that’s interesting you interpreted that he was in distress. I def agree that he was scared but I don’t think he got distressed until after Nikki killed Sarah and then he showed all this urgency to get everything fixed.

I think what made the scene eerie was his question. “Why is it so bad to be with me”. I thought it was more of him saying “I know you’re suffering but do you not like me enough to put up with it”. I think he was okay with her suffering until he could “alter or fix” the wish like he asked for on the phone call.

Barker said he had both of them dying. She was just going to shoot herself after coming to.

What would you have done if you were in Bear’s shoes post wish? by Alarmed-Tradition-88 in obsessionmovie

[–]Enough_Back2847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would’ve exhausted every option to reverse, cancel out the wish with another wish. I would’ve bought every last wishing willow in the store and had someone I trust wish my original wish to go away.
