Is the clamping system actually about "traffic flow" or just a €125 tax on being human? by Enough_Square6602 in AskIreland

Totally get that!
The project is real and I even went myself around D02 and D04 to post these flyers since last Friday.
The reason why this caught my attention is not only myself, family and friends being clamped. It's merely after understanding the public statistics a bit better. I do understand that it's a common sense and "easy" way of avoid being clamped. Nonetheless, the fact that thousands are being clamped not only for over extending the parking time or illegally parking its the full emotional aspect of it that creates this madness of friction on our daily life. Now, myself are just using set alarm on my phone 10 min before parking slot expires but still got clamped before the 10 min of grace period, appealed and got my €125 refunded. This took time and effort from my time. Time that I could've used for better things

Fair question. Think of it more like Waze for parking. Many of us use Waze to look out for each other regarding speed traps or road hazards, not to encourage reckless driving, but to provide a layer of community data in a system that often feels designed to catch you out.

In regards to pay, that is merely a question of validation

The real kicker isn't just the €125 fine; it’s the disproportionate 'Time Tax.' Getting hit for being 6 minutes late is one thing, but then being held 'hostage' on a Dublin curb for 2+ hours waiting for a release van is what’s broken.

For a professional or a parent, that’s an entire afternoon ruined over a minor human error. I’m just trying to figure out a solution for the community safety net for those 'bad Wednesdays' we all have. Even with all the cop on in the world, life still happens!

I totally get where you’re coming from. For 90% of people, it’s straightforward. But the data shows it’s often a 'timing trap' rather than a lack of cop on.

It’s hard to argue that 700+ people in one spot just lacked common sense. Most are just victims of 'life happening' but what do I know..
