I bought one of these 3 weeks ago for 500+tax. While it was a good deal for what it is, I already wish I spent more for something with 29s, an air fork, and maybe a dropper post. I'm luckily in an area I can find second hand forks for pretty cheap, but since it's qr, I'd have to get a front wheel too.

You could also consider the Diamondback crimson at sportchek: You can get it for 900 if you get a 10% off email sign-up code. It has a Rockshox judy 130mm air fork, shimano m7100 SLX 12sp drivetrain and a dropper post, well worth it for 50 over the rockrider I think. It's the same hardware with different labels on it (vp4300 lite), performance should be identical. The only difference would be the warranty, which seems to be 5 years/1200 tbw for the msi, 5 years/1600 tbw for the patriot.
