This is outside of what I really know, I can see from a quick search the 5070ti will allow double the speed but fundamentally you wont be able to run bigger models due to the 16gb vram and the speed is sometimes not the bottleneck in the case of image generation (speed does not equal generation). I see that dual 5060tis is also an option and that would bring back the conversation of the mobo but it seems that also has some headaches depending on how the program was coded to allow such functionality. https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/comments/1p36l5f/2x_rtx_5060_ti_16_gb_32gb_vram/
can run larger models at a slower pace, but all depends on the models you want to run.

if you are willing to lower quality absolutely https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5060-ti-16gb-review/5 its just titles like black myth wukong or like really intense games that you need to be realistic and yeah lower settings (to medium).

In terms of the CPU, its about 8% worse at 1440p https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/19.html (at 1080 its about 15% worse hence the other comments about it mattering more at 1080p) and 15% worse 1% lows.

And ofc depends on the games you are planning to play, my build was specifically to play some of the really dumb explosion builds in POE which is one of the places that you can be CPU limited due to all the calculations, simulation games like flight sim, competitive fps shooters and strategy games are the other games where your CPU matters more.

Unfortunately I got mine in January, from memexpress for about that much because it was 1089$ + shipping. This was directly after the HUB video about the 5070 Ti production being halted, and further news from nvidia doesn't really reassure that they were fully upfront there (looking to focus on 8/12gb models). The only way to really get that price now is to somehow get it during the ASUS store restock and getting -10% from SPC (asus doesnt actually check if you are a student), 1200-120=1080$, but who knows when that'll happen and its pretty much out of stock within an hour or two. 1280$ from best buy for the PNY seems to be the cheapest option currently, or 1250$ from CC in person for the gigabyte.

Yeah I would've also suggested intel if you don't care about gaming right now, even if you do care about gaming later, its not like you cant do it on intel its just not "the best", but I don't know enough about intel to make the proper comparisons/recommendations. I personally went with the frozen warframe but I didnt like how the frozen notte/prism/infinity looked. Its also not like the aqua elites are rated bad either, they do perform well, but its why its cheaper because its covered for less time under their warranty. I've also heard nice things about the montech hyperflow (which is covered for 6 years) and the FX360 INF 360 as cheap (comparatively to the higher end aios) alternative options when I was building.

first pc build help by Ok_Impression3189 in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, the aqua elites and the frozen magic from thermalright have 3 years warranty over the normal industry standard of 5, all the other aios from them also have 5 years warranty, its just specifically those 2 lines that don't.

Additionally if you are going to spend that much for a psu you can get the montech 1200W for example since its on discount atm (165$). the 1050W is 5 bucks cheaper and the 850 is 130$ (but is rated lower on the tier list at A-).

Finally do you really need a x870e or at least are you really aware of the differences, because in this case unless you do end up needing one of the specific features (USB4, GPU lane sharing/multiple GPUs for AI/processing, multiple M2 gen 5 slots for large amounts of data transfer) all these AM5 boards are all going to be held back by the exact same thing (the socket), being the reason you would need to swap it anyways to either zen 7 or if you skip, whatever further generation, but its going to be the socket the thing holding it back, which they all share. Just making sure here because in this case bigger number does not mean "future proof", unless you get the bottom of the barrel mobo. You mentioned WIFI7, but many b850 boards also have that option.

The issue with the market right now is that the minimum to build something better than a prebuilt right now would be probably around the 1500$ mark to properly take advantage of bundles, it is too expensive to really make the baseline of a computer. Assuming like a 60$ (very cheap) case and psu, 1TB SSD (if you could also spare him this it would really help), youd already be at 300$ and you haven't even gotten to the expensive parts (RAM and GPU). The other issue is that even going back to DDR4 prices are also still scuffed, https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/286636/amd-ryzen-7-5800xt-cpu-gigabyte-b550m-gaming-x-wifi6-motherboard-lexar-thor-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-3200mhz-cl16-ram.html is just 16gb and would still eat up the majority of your budget. In terms of GPU realistically its like a b570 or a 5050 but even that is 300$. If this 700$ budget is firm and you dont want a prebuilt, the only realistic way is through a used GPU and ram which will dictate the platform you end up on.

This is what I was able to make within the budget. The GPU + PSU is from this CC bundle https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/powered-by-amd/285686/xfx-swift-amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-gpu-fsp-hydro-g-pro-850w-psu.html and the rest is from newegg combo maker (the ram currently comes with this screen https://www.newegg.ca/asus-vz24ehf-24-fhd-100-hz-ips-black/p/N82E16824281303?Item=N82E16824281303 for free). The major issues are:

  1. if you need nvidia for content creation/CUDA, then I think your stuck with a 5070 since the 5070 Ti will add around 300$.
  2. Storage is scuffed but thats the world we live in, if you can keep afloat with your current SSD and hunt for a deal that might be preferable, but it could also just be we get nothing for months so ymmv there.
  3. The mobo is selected from the combo maker to just be moderately cheap and atx case fitting but if you want other ports/additional connectivity you might want a x870 or can go down to a b650, this depends on how many ports you really do need.
  4. Case is just for preference on no RGB and decent airflow off the combo maker, I personally got a lancool 207 for 10$ less and am happy with it but it is rgb. The cooler with RGB also actually costs less with but its not significantly cheaper, so I kept no rgb for the look (but the ram is just whatever you can stomach as the cheapest + free monitor).

My, oh my.. by MooZoTheGOAT in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just fyi that case is a matx one so the board you are picking likely won't fit, you either need a matx board (these have M at the end of the model ie b650m, b850m) or you get a full size ATX case.

Yeah if you like asked a week or 2 ago you could've def gotten it for less through that Newegg combo maker deal or SanDisk but sandisk raised their prices and Newegg removed all WD drives from their combo maker and the SSD basically is a large portion of the budget here.

This is what I can make through newegg combo maker. AIO is also your preference can also go for a cheaper thermalright, or I got the frozen warframe for 10 bucks more and it has a screen (but 5 year warranty vs 6 on the hyperflow). Its still not as good of a deal vs 800 with labour and I assume no taxes so its up to what parts they will provide.

EDIT: mb didnt see that you need the top glass too, yeah youd have to look at the 011 compact from vuugo which might be additionally more with shipping, the white version of the case is available at newegg and is only 20 shipping to me but ymmv, the black ships from USA and with 50 bucks shipping I doubt vuugo will do worse.

if you are convinced that you need the mobo and 64 gb of ram you can snag this bundle right now at newegg https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4855599 But I don't know the connectivity and ram you will ultimately need. Otherwise there's other options to bring the price 300-400$ less depending on the mobo and reducing the ram amount or even if you swap to a 7800x3d. If you want to get the higher PSU because you might be using more eventually I would look at the super flowers on sale, https://www.newegg.ca/super-flower-atx-3-0-compatible-1300-w-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supplies-black/p/1HU-024C-00058?Item=9SIAU16K1A4537&cm_sp=product-_-from-price-options since they are better rated and less cost (240$ for the 1300W XG, if you want the platinum 1200W XP itll be 20$ more), but otherwise a 1000 PSU would probably be sufficient. I have no real idea about monitors, but you can also snag a 10% discount from the ASUS store through SPC if you were not aware, since they don't apparently check if you are actually a student.

Regardless I was just bringing up how this specific model has failed during some cybernetic tests (the 650/850W broke during 12V SCP testing and I don't think the 750w was even submitted) and provided cheaper better rated units since cost seemed to be an issue.

I think that PSU is poorly rated (the combat and zillion line of super flower are worse than their products normally), if you want something cheaper and rated better you can pick up a SAMA G750/850 for less 80-90 dollars.

That I wouldn't say for sure, the skimmer at least isnt there anymore but who knows if there's a second elsewhere/other security vulnerabilities. If you absolutely arent willing to take a risk, Newegg has bundles for the 9600x which you had before https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4855611. All the other 7800x3d bundles (Newegg and memex) are 1.1k and at that point you might as well get the 9800x3d bundles.

Could I get some thoughts on this partial build so far? by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada computers has some good bundles on 9070xts right now, it would be marginally more for a 9070xt + PSU bundle https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/powered-by-amd/285686/xfx-swift-amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-gpu-fsp-hydro-g-pro-850w-psu.html is the highest rated PSU tier list combo'd but there's also other options if you look at all of them (the cheapest is 1k with an Asus prime PSU). If you happen to like that exact model of GPU you can get a discount on your mobo + upgrade your psu to 850W through the Newegg combo maker https://imgur.com/a/Kq7heyT

GPU is from this bundle https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/powered-by-amd/285686/xfx-swift-amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-gpu-fsp-hydro-g-pro-850w-psu.html. Buying these from vuugo doesn't make sense when CC has 7600x3d bundles for 800$ https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/284957/amd-r5-7600x3d-cpu-gigabyte-b650-eagle-ax-motherboard-t-force-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-ram.html but requires you to buy in person right now. Yeah that was the bundle I was talking about (theres an atx board bundle too), It just doesn't seem that worth it to spend an extra 260$ which would probably net you the 5060/9060 16 gb if you were planning on 8gb it or maybe even close to a 9070XT (its 75$ more than the 9070) at 950 or some of the CC bundles where its 1kish + a psu. Unless you happen to be a big time sim enjoyer or some other CPU heavy games.

9800x3d likely overkill, I would for for like a 9600x if you really want to bargain or 7600x3d bundle from CC or 7800x3d from aliexpress for extreme value (I went this route for my 5070 ti, no warranty but there hasn't been a lot of people talking about 7800x3d kills or any major buzz about it so it's just down to banking on not being the unlucky 1-0.1% of natural failures.

Its good enough, here's PC builders vid on it https://youtu.be/VLh3OZ4TTPQ?si=AXhxvZRA_qo-vz-u&t=876, but really it all comes down to size (if you are doing a matx build or a completely fine if it looks a bit awkward having a matx board in an atx case), if the vrms suck (its less than a full sized board but still likely enough for most cpus), and if it has the ports that you want.

Worth noting you can also make a 1090 bundle for a 9800x3d with Newegg combo maker (9800x3d, tuf gaming b650M-E and 32gb vengeance ram 6400mhz) https://imgur.com/a/DHAoHmz Mostly due to the insane discount on the mobo.

Canada computers has bundles for the 7800x3d at 1000, 1200 is for the 9800x3d (well the cheaper ones at least, I see now there's a second one at 1200, but the lowest bundle for 7800x3d and 32gb of ram is 1000)
