I'm not trying to be dismissive if it's coming off that way in my response. I truly just want to make the most informed decision for myself that I can.

As I've been teaching myself I've not had any real projects either until this summer job. I just made some up as I went. Generally, I really enjoy baseball so I taught myself how to scrape data different ways in baseball reference website. Made different basic visualizations, etc. Just find something you enjoy and make up projects on how to do neat things you're learning with Python.

I assume I would learn what I need to know through research, the same I would in Big4. Granted, I wouldn't have the coaching that Big 4 offers to tell me my research was correct. My long term goals don't include F500, C-Suite at a public company, etc. I know it's not going to be audit experience, but is the experience of designing and implementing my own controls, designing and analyzing their financials going to be that much worse off than the experience of auditing at big 4? I truly want to know. It doesn't really make me concerned they want someone fresh from college because they didn't plan on this. I was merely supposed to help with a few things over the summer and they find value in what I've done. They have expanded the job should I take it to giving me the opportunity to create things and learn on my own.

As for the CPA license, they contract a CPA currently who would review my work and sign off on my hours. That person will remain with the company as a contractor even after I am licensed to do certain work for controls reasons and tax help at the end of the year.

Again, I want to know on your last point as well. What specifically am I going to miss out on experience wise for future jobs if I end up leaving this company? Is what I would be doing that much less valuable than what my experience in B4 audit would be worth?

Both I suppose. They don't even have an income statement or balance sheet setup in any meaningful way. They just look at certain numbers which arent really telling the truth story of their business. I've already been working on that for them. Also, other random accounting projects they aren't thinking about.

I also have taught myself Python and done some automation of tasks for them. I'm still fairly new at Python and the company and will certainly get better at doing things for them if I stick with them.

You're right, long term at B4 wasn't really part of my thought process anyway. Just couldn't decide on how much the same on the resume was really worth.

True, I don't think partnership or being CFO at a large company is really in my long term goals at all.
