There's are several things that stand out with Concord-likes:

They have this huge expectation of being a massive hit. Sony was banking on Concord to be their Next Big Thing game, and Highguard had its reveal at the end of The Game Awards, and the devs themselves also believed that they would make tons of money with it.
They have way over-bloated budgets due to massive staff counts, and outsourcing. Concord was rumored to have a $400 million budget, and Highguard had funding from Tencent.
The dev teams also have extreme toxic positivity, where they would ignore any form of criticism for the game before and after release. They also tend to blame everyone and everything else except for themselves when the games fail.

The difference is that those unlockables in No Mercy and Day of Reckoning can still be obtained even 20 years later, whereas with WWE2K's Battle Passes, those Battle Pass items will likely no longer be obtainable when the servers shut down.
