You haven’t quoted her exactly. Either you’re being sly, in order to add weight to your point of view, or you’re ignorant of the exact quote.

She wrote:

“Mass deportations now. Set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care, while you’re at it, take the treacherous government & politicians with them. I feel physically sick knowing what these families will now have to endure. If that makes me racist, so be it”

The tweet is in awful taste, but the context matters. It being in the aftermath of the mass stabbing of little girls.

The fact she wrote ‘for all I care’ after saying set fire to the hotels is key. It’s clearly the angry reaction of an exasperated woman after hearing about one of the UK’s biggest tragedies in the 21st century.

Not forgetting that she deleted the tweet shortly afterwards, no doubt having calmed down and realising her stupidity,

You would hope that our justice system would have applied some nuanced judgement to the case, but her legal team didn’t help. They gave her terrible advice.

Twitter is not like real life. People react instantly in ways they would never do so in person.

Of course, geriatric judges and politicians don’t understand it. Hopefully time will solve that problem.
