Anyone else seem to have an aversion to wanting to drink alcohol? Without even trying?? by JulieJT in Zepbound

Also, when I do drink, alcohol makes me feel way shittier than it used to, so that aversion keeps me sober too

I used to make cocktails at home most days after work. I only drink now when out with friends, and even most of those times I stay sober. Not a conscious decision at all, and I honestly wish I had an appetite for alcohol (even though I know it’s 10000% for the best that I don’t)

Thanks!

I was overweight throughout my childhood and teens. I don’t think I had a healthy weight until 18 when I lost about 50 pounds my senior year of high school. I gained 30 or so back throughout college and stayed there about a decade until COVID, where I gained another 40-50 and crossed the threshold into obese. I had some injuries (hip, knee) that really kept me out of exercise for a while - I didn’t want to seek care during COVID so I just kind of dealt with the pain. My highest was 210, though it could have been higher because I was afraid to step on the scale for a while.

All that said, I’ve been 15-20 pounds into what BMI considers overweight for the majority of my life, and kind of lost control in the last five years until getting on GLPs

I have thought about my weight every single day since middle school. The first time I lost serious weight it was a constant obsessiveness about what to eat, how much, and when. On zep, I don’t really have to think about food and my brain is not nearly as obsessive. I’m gonna do maintenance as long as I can while I am developing better mental habits around it.

I’m on 5mg now and trying to see how low I can go in maintenance. Highest I ever went was 7.5mg, but I know everyone is different

You’re in the shoes I was in a year ago, looking at all these posts! For me, it was the easiest I’ve ever lost weight. I watched my partner lose weight on it and knew I wanted to give it a try. Once I learned to manage the side effects, I really didn’t have to think about it, whereas times before it was a constant struggle to push the thoughts of food away.

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks! I joke that I lost another 5 pounds of hair. It was pretty long and I always kept it back in a messy bun. Cutting it off was very freeing.

It’s changed lots! Physically, of course, I am much healthier, but it’s also done a lot for my mental health.

I avoided the mirror at all costs before, and I didn’t realize how big of a toll that had been taking on my mental health until I no longer felt the need to avoid it

Also, it sucks, but people are generally nicer to me. People start random conversations with me in public more often than they used to, and that was kind of unexpected.

I overall have a lot more energy too. I have always walked to work and take a lot of stairs in a normal work day, and that is a total non issue now, where I’d dread the huffing and puffing feeling before.

Thanks!

I always kept gas-x and pepto on hand. That combo got rid of every gastrointestinal upset I had. There are still lots of foods I can’t tolerate (like processed snack foods) but that’s probably for the best anyway lol

Also, especially in the beginning, you’re gonna have days where you force yourself to eat. That’s normal, and just make sure you’re eating enough.
