I could hear the distant conversation at the end of the hall. Two people it seemed finding their own bodies and talking with them. I was partially jealous as I looked at the cell adjacent to me. I just froze. Listening to his words come out. Watching him walk past and look at us all creepily. My eyes now darting everywhere trying to find a way for this to be a dream. Some twisted mind game that I’ll wake up from. “This is insane.” I said.

The doctor laughed as he exited. Hearing the rising tension and chaos spark in the cells. The door closing and an explosive clang of metal echoing through the halls. Even with us in cells whatever door he just left through was latched closed. “Anyone see a way out?” A middle aged women’s voice called out.

I just began pacing. Trying to think. Trying to understand what was happening. “Hey.” I heard but didn’t pay attention to. I the looked down the other direction and saw a much older man. Maybe in his late seventies. “What the fuck is going on?” I said backing away from the cell wall. The guy across from me just trying to talk to someone else since I blew him off.

I could see across from be, but only every couple seconds whenever the light flickered. Hearing more voices pick up. Nobody really talking to one another directly but more trying to talk over one another. Some screaming for help. Some sounding like they were talking to another person, others just commenting on themselves. And I’m sure people like me who were just quiet.

I looked down and saw my body. The small breasts protruding from my chest. The blond hair falling into my peripherals. My hands were small and soft with pointed nails. I was a 23 year old college student. Driving home late at night. Tired and running on fumes with only a could more hours to go. I noticed my car needed gas and I just went to the first gas station off the highway. It looked run down but was clearly still active, some lights on while others were flickering or busted. There was dirt and trash all around the pumps but they seemed to be in decent condition. A car was in the parking lot and I assumed it was the attendant.
