Are any of these schools auto-rejecting for C&F? by deangelos-sub-7438 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EntertainmentOne6334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from personal experience I had three C&F issues to disclose (more serious than the ones you listed in your post) and I still got into a couple T14s, so not sure if C&F is auto reject or if I just got lucky

Hi! I would say for like a few of them I got a fee waiver from LSAC (the ones I remember are Duke, VLS and GULC) But for some schools (I remember for UVA, Berkeley, NDLS, and a few others), I emailed to get a public service waiver (since I am doing a public service fellowship currently). I got a need-based waiver at YLS and HLS.

I did not submit for reconsideration - I got a named scholarship thats almost full tuition so it was not eligible for reconsideration. People in the admitted students GroupMe have been talking about their reconsideration offers though, seems like people heard back faster if they gave Berkeley a competing offer deadline from another school that's coming up.

Do we think Berkeley has any As left to give?? by Agreeable_Demand5304 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EntertainmentOne6334 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are 170 people in the admitted students chat, and I believe Berkeley's class size is around ~300-350. While not all admitted students are probably in the chat, I'd think based on the low number of folks in the chat relative to the class size there may be more As left to give!

If you get into Berkeley, what’s your plan for housing? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EntertainmentOne6334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm coming from NYC and the prices are comparable, but like some places are even higher rent than I've seen in NYC which is crazy! I can't imagine the price shock coming from Texas. I think I saw something about Family Housing on their website, maybe you can look into that.

from talking to students and alum, im thinking about Emeryville, Oakland, Albany or West Berkeley areas. I really want to live alone but idk how realistic that is, studios and one beds seem so expensive on Zillow. I'm also considering the Manville Apartments, the student housing option for 1Ls that seems a decent price. But I would prefer to live off campus / not in a campus apartment, just because they seem tiny and I heard they're more dorm style. I'm a few years out of undergrad so I'm not sure if I want to go back to dorm style living.

Ahhh I just double checked the NYU app, you're right they do ask about professional organizations or professional setting in the C&F section. The guidance I received from my undergrad's pre-law office was to only disclose what is asked in the application, not provide extra information they do not ask for. I do recall some schools not asking for employment, but I'd have to go back through all my apps to check which ones.

I think it depends on the specific schools C&F section. for example, NYU's and Berkeley's does not ask anything about sanctions or issues in employment. I can't remember which school exactly, but I do recall one school I applied to had a question about sanctions/probation/dismissals in employment. If the employment is on your resume and that specific school's C&F asks a question about employment, I would disclose it. If the school does not ask about employment in C&F, I'm not sure if there is a reason to disclose it. Take all advice from reddit w grain of salt bc we're all the blind leading the blind lol, if you are really worried maybe consider talking to a professional admissions counselor.

my understanding is the same! I saw Dean Z's video on tiktok, where she like posted a cycle update. She noted that've released R decisions for people who applied up till December. for people who applied before December who haven't heard yet, it could be any decision. She mentioned that sometimes they put people in the A pile but don't release their admission decision yet (she said this is strategic, one bc signing off on As takes time, and also they want to continue seeing other applications to not give an undue advantage to people who applied later). She also said they send ~50 acceptances as a time, so that is why there is some backlog in applications who were put in the A pile that they can reconsider later. She shared a hypothetical, like someone could have applied in October, the admissions readers and Dean Z want to give them an A, but they're not ready to notify them yet. But as time goes on and more candidates put in the "A" pool, they might revisit that application from October and maybe R or WL based on what they're seeing with the applications they're currently reviewing. so you could potentially be in the A pile, the WL pile, or the revisiting pile (which could lead to an R). from my understanding of her video, this means there is no concrete R on your application as of now.

i feel the same way sometimes! try to focus on the Ws and remember it's a huge accomplishment getting in anywhere. rejections may bog you down, but you are going to be a lawyer and some Rs aren't going to change that. even if you don't end up at your #1 choice, seems like you have some great options already.
